Who here takes apart and re-lubes all the pivots on their full-suspension bike? Is it something you feel you should do on a yearly basis? I know it is dependent on conditions and actual use, but I'm curious to know. What about the BB?

I do, just to inspect everything. I found a bad bearing this year, and every year I get a little slop in the bushings.

I check pivot bolts for tightness periodically and look/feel for slop in the bearings. But the FS bikes I've had use sealed bearings so there's no lubing.

I got a shock one time checking over my AS-X - - 3 of the 4 dogbone bearings were shot: seals torn, bearings fried. Turns out they were lower-grade standard industrial cartridge bearings. Bought better 'blue-seal' ones at the bearing house to replace.

Not gonna happen. I just burn them out and have the shop replace them when the time comes.

I can hardly find time to oil the chain.

However when the BB was seized to the point that I was not strong enough to turn it with my feet, I replaced that myself. I had to go to work, and driving sux.

Thanks guys. I was feeling guilty not attending to my bike. I may take the BB apart and relube it but I'll just lube the pivots through the zerk-fittings.

mtnbiker66 02-19-08 08:50 PM

I like zerks.

You do not need to do that with your bike. Even folks that ride year round in much more slop than you encounter don't do that.

That's the beauty of owning a Turner. Less maintenance, more riding.

Thanks. Towards the end of last season I was getting some creaking. I know it could be a multitude of things but thought that maybe I'd have to start with pivots. I will now set that aside and start with the BB. After I'm doing playing in the snow, though.

They'll never hurt from arthritis that way.

Maybe Gastro's dog?
What about the winners of the Gladiators show? (anybody watch it?) They now get to be Gladiators themselves? I don't think the show promoters thought that through too well. I mean these people don't have the showbiz bodies that make a Gladiator.
I can hear the announcer " Your Gladiators for this event, Titan, Justice, Militia, Evan and Ralphie!"

. . . except the Enduro S-Works. Well, it too; except my son has one now, so I have to go easy.

Saw this shot in the road forum, apparently it's old, but whatever, I've never seen it before. Pretty funny.

I do it every few months depending on conditions.
