Ty

Bikes too nice to have LX on it, even though it would work fine. I just went to 9 speed from 8, with M952 deralieurs, and a newer crankset. The Avids have been on since day 1. I love to ride this bike!

Must be nostalgia, but I always love seeing a nice Fat Chance!

I've been thinking of getting another fork. A Fox maybe. But this one seems to work fine. What would you recommend?

I have a Speed Triple that I've been modding, so the bicycles haven't been getting the cash thrown at them much until last winter when I upgraded the drive. Now you got me thinking...

yea i see were you are comming from. the bike looks GREAT but the fork just really stood out against all the other components.

but...i think one of those new fox forks would look perfect on that bike

If you're asking me, it's a '99 Fat that came with the 1 1/8 steerer. I know the earlier ones had 1". And 100 mm is a bit too much travel for a hardtail, isn't it. The Fox comes in 80 mm which would work better on this bike, IMO.

that is a very nice fork. but i dont know if you would like/need the terralogic technology. if you decide you want it then that fork is perfect. but if not you should check out the frlt.

are you thinking of getting 80mm or 100?

I was just looking at them. I'll wait until spring, and see if I can get a leftover at a reduced price... I don't mind spending the money for quality components, but 600+ is steep.

K now really, does the stem mount around that thicker piece on the steer "rod"?
I've seen Maveric forks before but have never looked at the steertube and I am quite interested now.

those are the older models. fox came out with a new line of forks. so you might be able to find them cheap(i use this term losely)now.

i wanted a frlt a while ago...and you can get one for around 350 on ebay. im not sure if you want to buy a fork on ebay though.

and yea 600 is a lot of money : /

Not to start a war or anything, but going from 8 to 9 speed is not an upgrade.

I've gone from six, to seven, to eight, to nine speed and chuckle when I read the hand wringing about the fragility of nine speed systems. I've never had a problem, nor have all of the disparate folks that I've ridden with, and I appreciate the extra gear/tighter spacing, depending upon cassette choice.
Agreed, decent cassette and decent derailler = nice tight shifting Havent noticed any problems with 7, 8 or 9 speed.

I went with 9 speed because I wanted a 34 T on the rear, and the 8 speed didn't have it, and was in need of replacing. I haven't had any problems either.

I was only going by what we saw in the shop I worked in, and personal experience. The only chain I've ever broken was a 9 speed. But it's no big secret that a 9 speed chain cannot be as strong as an 8, and that the big cog on a 9 speed cassette is weaker than on the 8. Perhaps Aussies are just a tougher lot, because it was not uncommon over there to see problems with 9 speed drivetrains.
