How wacked are YOUR wheels?

I looked at my rear wheel a bit ago and noticed that my rear wheel has around 1/2-1mm hop in it from smacking sumthin'

How bad do yours get before you rebuild 'em?

I ride 729's so I don't understand the question.

How did you measure 0.5 mm?

Bikes: hardtail, squishy, fixed roadie, fixed crosser

I've got a wicked bad shimmy on the front of the big bike, courtesy a rocky slot chute in Moab. and all the others are tweaked to varying degrees. So long as things track reasonably true, I don't worry about 'em.

True things up a bit when needed, but otherwise don't mess with them unless it full on is blown and needs a new build. As in, it's not rubbing the frame/fork/front mech/chain and the tires stay seated...

Disc brakes rock for procrastination of wheel repairs!

My rear 24" Alex DX-32, 36 hole is still living strong. Through hardtail DH riding and all.

It was a joke...basically it's a small hop, hehe.

Whenever my wheels get out of sorts, I just turn go 110% with my gnarliness and spin them back to true.

Cylocross bike: Out of round, at least one dent on the rim.

Mountain bike: A bit out of true.

You didn't ask about front wheels, so I won't tell you.

I had my rear for a while rubbing on the one side of the seat stay. So I ditched it and got a Sun MTX.

Damn Ed, I know your not serious. As much as you break things, your can't be worried about a 1/4 mm? My rear rim took a shot coming off a dh, through a rocky creek crossing this year and got the bead bent in. Bent it back as straight as I could and never looked back. My theory is if you got time to lace up a new rim, you got time you could be riding. I'll heal the bike properly when the snow flies.
But until then, I here there is a new trail in Leavenworth and also Holton at the Banner Creek reservoir.

Doesn't everybody have a dial indicator? How else would you know where TDC is?

I imagine that perfect roundness would be critical with your wheels - - wouln't want to send any unexpected ripples through the latte when balancing it and riding.

Given that you're in the PNW, you understand that making the perfect cup of coffee is part science, part art and part voodoo. Anything that disturbs the fine balance must be dealt with in a timely manner.

It almost went over my head, then I remembered your gnarlyness. You accelerate hard and let centrifugal force "retrue" the rim. Awesome!

my rear wheel on my old bike is wacked about half an inch each way in diffent places and also about the same out of round.. I have it on a trainer now with a slick my goal is to create a mountain bike simulating trainer, but sadly it works fine, I guess the tire just compresses..
