Abbreviated meaning decapitated or castrated?

^^ Abbreviated as in older-FSR abbreviated:

I guess, technically, it's referred to as an 'interrupted' seat tube.

^^ Haven't gotten any more time on it since my report late last month, unfortunately. Too long a list of 'honey-dos' before company comes for the holidays; plus, I'm not crazy about riding in single-digit weather.

Son and I are going to do our annual snow ride to the top of Stony Peak next week regardless, though. Yes. pics will be forthcoming.

Edit: Forgot to mention, it's a suspension post too!
Rethinking what I said here, I was too harsh. The post works, though not as effortlessly as I had hoped. I have never used a GD, or Joplin, etc, but I thought this would be 'pull the lever, post drops.'

Not quite. You have to orient yourself on the seat just right so that your body weight puts pressure in the right place to make it drop. I guess other than that it worked as expected for a 'suspension' dropper for $30.

I think Norco and some other companies have some doubled posts, with two QR setups you could use on the big bike. A bit more sturdy. I like my dropping posts, but for purely lift days have usually swapped in a regular post.

Yup, made by Titec and also seen on Screams and Chapparals.

The 98 FSR Pro had a mast design similar to dminors - What I did was found my optimum pedaling height and then chopped the post even with the bottom of the seat tube. Saved weight, allowed me to drop the post further, and made returning to the correct height a no-brainer.

Doug I think you should cut yours at an angle to match the bottom of the seat tube and eliminate every last bit of excess material. Just don't let the clamp slip or you will skewer your shock. :/

I am going to cut the post - - I just couldn't bring myself to do it to my beautiful Syncros post and for just the maiden voyage. And you're right, g, you can usually achieve the perfect compromise between more-or-less slammed and climbing leg extension with the right length (my last interrupted mast was a '00 BigHit).

And I know about the Titec 'Scoper. If I recall right, though, it also suffers from not being available in a 27.2 (too much material to try to squeeze into a skinny package). But I might as well use my single post if I'm going to futz with a QR like I've always done.

I'm just REAL intrigued by dropper posts for the Moto; I just don't think $200+ -worth yet.

Gotcha on the QR thing - yeah, 27.2mm would be tough to get a double post and still have it durable without weighing a ton. I'd have a hard time cutting a nice post as well.

It was a bit tough to swallow that sort of cost for a seat post, but I'm glad I did now. The tradeoff is I run cheaper cranks and brakes.

If you can find someone to lend you one that'll fit the Moto for a ride or two, you'll want one of your own. Make your own Hite-Rite maybe?

That has occured to me. And I'm not above trying to fab something.

I actually tried drawing up plans 3 or 4 years before the GD came out. I had an idea for a post that would "raise and lower like a pneumatic office chair." Kicked ideas around with my fellow mad-scientist firend and bike mechanic Dan.

I even tried sourcing real skinny (most are squat and fat) office chair-like cylinder through Thomasnet but could not find a mfr that made the right sizes. It just stayed an idea and now look what's happened.

Is that what they're going for? I got mine for $160 through my LBS.
