Enjoy! I was the opposite - I started on a $100 mtn bike used , and switched into triathlon/road biking.

I was surprised at how strong I was relative to the "serious" roadies and triguys. Mtn biking definitely equips you well for road hills as well as bike handling. Hills the roadies were calling "steep" were easy-moderate for a mtn bike climber - in my book, if you're not required to use the climbing bars, it's not THAT steep!

Roadies can be strong as all heck, though. They seem to be quite obsessive about their racing and thus training.

First thing you need to do is to lose the reflectors and water bottle.

Uhhh...save the bottle cages for the roadie and make them carbon. For a mountain bike you need a camelbak. If you don't have one all the other kids will point, laugh and call you funny names.
