Frame Questions

Hey All,

I have some questions about who and what kind of frame to look for for a custom build. I want a freeride bike that borders on the xc side (I'm not going to do any 20 ft drops but will be beating the bike up bit). Furthermore I want to be able to ride up hills.

Anyone have any suggestions on what company's and which frames (I like both hard and soft tails) I should look into?

Thanks,
- legit

PS. a budget of around $1000 is what I'm looking at.

The SC chameleon seems like a pretty beefy hardtail frame. For a grand, forget about a full boinger.

How much do full suspension frames run? I really don't have a very good knowledge of this area so any info is appreciated.

Also I should mention I want a 29'er.

Not sure if you can get them new as just a frame but the Norco Rampage is built to be a Freeride hardtail. It is a little heavy but being a hard tail it pedals pretty well. Its a shorter bike so it's not to hard to throw around and is built to take some hits. And I'm going to have to agree with the guy above me for a grand, unless you go used, you can get a much nicer hardtail. Also might want to look into a Yeti DJ, Commencal Absolut 4x.

29ers are more for XC. I'm not familiar with any 29er Freeride bikes. Also look to spend about $6-800 for a hardtail and $1200 and up for good full suspension.

Good to know, thanks.

Alright lets bump the budget up to $2000 (easily done as I'm not going to be building it immediately just trying to get familiar with whats out there).

Is your budget for the frame or for the full build?

Hey just looking, you can get a 29" f/s frame from this guy for 1900 that should be all that you are asking for. I have seen a bike of his real quality stuff. It also keeps you from being just another trek, giant, blah blah, blah. check him out here is his address.

Hope you find what you are looking for.

Preston is a sweet bike, but more than a g note. I would look into the Rocky Mountain Slayer. Look for a used one. That bike has won lots of awards and everyone that I have talked to loves it. Good for pedaling and will take anything that you throw at it.
