Dizzy

When I go riding, and I push it hard my legs get tired. I'll stop to take a breather, and wham I feel like throwing up, I get dizzy, and I basically take off all of my gear with the exception of my shorts, and shoes and I lay down in the shade to cool down. Now just in case everyone is wondering I am in pretty good shape, I am into athletics, MMA, running, swimming, and I was in the Marines. I am not some pansy that just got a little tired. I have never felt this kind of fatigue other than when I am riding. Is this normal? Why does this happen? Is there something wrong with me?

Perhaps asking a physician would be appropriate.

Vasovagal response to the exercise. Could be your blood vessels dilating when you push it and when you stop, your BP drops like mad. Then after you sit for a while, your vessels shrink back down and you start to feel better.

That or you could have Coronary Artery Disease.

Either way man...get it checked out. Do a stress test. Get a dual isotope stress test (nuclear)...don't "eff'around". Don't do a standard GXT. They're only like 75% conclusive.

(BTW...I've seen your symptoms before from people who are in shape...they blew chunks after moderate exercise)

'Could be nothing.

Every two years my job requires me to get a physical, and I just had mine like two months ago, and everything came back good. Doc said my iron was just a little high, so I started taking a multivitamin without iron. I was thinking it was something along the lines of what Mr. Chelboed mentioned. I do other forms of exercise and push my body to the breaking point, and gave never experienced this kind of sensation before. I'll probably go to the UM sports doctor anyway. See what the heck is going on.

My immediate thoughts are dehydration or heat exhaustion, but not knowing your climate the latter may not be the case.

Still, if symptoms are that significant, seeing a doc is good advice.

Well I live in Miami, and yesterday it had to be like 100 degrees. So it's pretty hot where I live.

Well, from what I've been trained by from the Red Cross:

Are you drinking enough? cause if its that hot any your not replacing fluids AND electrolytes, it can throw your body into confusion.
But also, When you just stop after very strenuous work to take a break (like running 5 miles and just stopping) it can cause major problems with your body. You have to keep your blood flow/pulse/breathing and all that under control. Instead of stopping right away, try riding nice and easy, if you get to an area where you can coast, back pedal (if your not on a fixed) and cool down your body before you stop.

but, as the red cross also taught me, I would advise you to go see a doctor just in case, ESPECIALLY if cooling down first and paying more attention to water/heart rate and blood flow, as you never know what really can be wrong.

Eh, now whether you trust a 17 year olds' credibility on this is another story lol.
(I'm 1 day away from Life Guard certification)
woot.

Are you riding at Markham? If you are doing a short hard climb, over exerting yourself, and suddenly stopping, then what you are describing is not uncommon. Your body is pushing all the blood to your legs and then you stop and your blood pressure drops. I agree with seeing a doc, but I would also recommend cooling down instead of stopping. Keep riding, but at a slower pace. Knowing the heat here in South Florida you also need to stay hydrated. Dehydration will cause your BP to drop. Mix that with the exercise and sudden stopping and you have a pretty good reason why this is happening. There was a man several years ago that came into the ER who died while waiting for a cross walk light to change. He was in shape and a runner. He ran to the light and stopped to wait instead of jogging in place. He ended up having a heart attack.

At 18 years old I was in charge of an ambulance. Don't let age determine your credibility.

Not sure why you quoted me on that one...unless you thought I was giving Oteehc a hard time which I wasn't. I was actually agreeing with him again...another milestone.

Nope. I was just reinforcing what you said. I was expecting the board to include both quotes, not just yours.

Spoke with my uncle who is a Cardiologist in St. Pete, Fl. He's here for the week, and he recommended I have a stress test done. So now the Dr. shopping begins. I also asked about the "Vasovagal response" that Mr. Chelboed mentioned, and he also said that could be the cause of my symptoms. He listened to my heart for a bit and did not hear anything out of the ordinary, but he recommended I get checked out by a Doc anyway.
