So here's my rig even though I'm not actually using it for mountain biking at the moment. (Sticking to the paved trails as I'm trying to lose some weight. :innocent: )

I put some Specialized Nimbus tires on it for road riding, and I just replaced the stock saddle tonight with a Specialized BG2 Sport. (Yeah, I need to lower the nose a bit. I haven't actually ridden it with the new saddle yet.)

Anyway, it was cheap for a new bike, and it's a really comfortable ride, so I'm enjoying it. I've named her the M.U.P.A.B. (Multi-Use Path Assault Bike). :thumb:

When i got the bike there was allot of spacers on the fork tubing. Should i take some off and get a higher degree stem? What are some good stems?

Here is my brand spanking new 2010 Cannondale F5. I have plenty of road bikes I could post photos of but I will hold off on that. Cannondale did a bunch of updates for 2010 including a new lighter frame and a new fork from RST that has a 1.5" steerer tube. I did just pick up some Time ROC ATAC to replace the flats in the photo...now I need to get out on the trails...hopefully this weekend.

I could be wrong but you got the tires on the wrong wheels. If you put the rear tire on the rear wheel it might help the climbing:thumb:. Also the tire you have the rear wheel is directional and you have it on backwards. Maybe this is your preference, but the tires are designed for a certain purpose and using them as designed will help all around.

Nice bike. I really like that shade of red.

Dude...those trails seriously...nice.

That's not even the half of it. My crappy CVS brand rechargeable batteries ran out so I didn't get any pictures of of the super-awesome gnarly parts of the trail. Those are just the vistas.

Nope. It is supposed to be a front specific tire. I find that the tread better (at least for climbing) going this way. I think I'm going to replace it anyways as I'm missing a bunch of chips out of it from my hackish no brake rock garden riding.

Granted I haven't lived here all that long, but I don't believe
Missouri is any better. I confess I miss the trails in Texas,
and being able to ride them in January/February without
the slightest worry of freezing to death.

My first mountain bike back in 1999 was a Specialized Hardrock in red, very
similar to the color of your Kona. That bike is long gone, but I still remember it - and several
of the "learning experiences" acquired with it.

I don't know. I know Cannondale went there when they started doing the Headshock and then used it for the Lefty...so in theory I could put a Lefty on there. I also know I road bikes they use a 1.5" lower bearing to increase stiffness on CF bikes (Cannondale actually did tests that show no significant added stiffness for an AL bike).

That is about all I know about it.

Actually, Cannondale used the 1 1/4" headset when they came out with the Headshok. So now young Cheeto...you have 1", 1 1/8", 1 1/4", and the good ol' 1 1/2". Oh yeah...lemme throw another coal on the fire for you. Tapered steerer tubes. 1 1/2" lower headset cup with 1 1/8" top cup.
