2001 garry fisher tassajara i picked up for about 130 bucks on craigslist,Awesome bike and i love it, brought it out to F.A.T.S. in Augusta and it didint miss a step but for the fact the chainrings and casette are worn completely out, rebuilding it with all slx and deore xt stuff soon.

N+1, I wanted a full suspension for some time and this one was pretty cheap. Three years old so I'll have to do some shock servicing soon. Works very well for me with Schwalbe Ice Spike Pro tires.

Thanks! My only issue is the largest chainring is a 39 and it kind sucks going downhill since it tops out really fast, however, that was on the road. I'll find out Thursday if I need to swap that out.

Looks good. Might want to pull the stem and get the front derailleur cable routed around the headtube.

39x11 should get you over 30mph if you can spin >100rpm. But even 39x12 (I don't know what cassette you have) is almost 23mph @ 90rpm. So, I think you'll find the 39 is plenty on trails and you can just coast down big hills on paved roads.

you must have found a big hill... just coast.
39x11 should get you over 30mph if you can spin >100rpm. But even 39x12 (I don't know what cassette you have) is almost 23mph @ 90rpm. So, I think you'll find the 39 is plenty on trails and you can just coast down big hills on paved roads.

I was going to switch out to a 3x10 but I figured I'd give the 2x10 a shot since competitive was pretty dry on parts the day I ordered it. I think it might be fine now that I've tested it on a trail. I can always switch the part out if I come across a big issue and they said I'd just have to pay the price difference of whatever I would get.

That Surly looks like a fun rig! Reminds me that I need to build up a single speed rigid.

I'm running an e13 XCX-ST. Would love to have gone with one that covers both the top or the ring and the bottom but couldn't because there are no ISCG tabs and the bottom bracket is a press-fit. But the one I have does its job well.

Update. Acquired a set of Reba 29ers for $0, they were supposedly trashed. I took them apart, cleaned, adjusted travel to 120, new shock oil and o-rings.....work like new. For as little as I have put into this rig, it is extremely fun and becoming a favorite!
more updates...added some bling today: Hydros front + rear, and new bars! 28lbs....not bad.
