Be Patient??

Hey all,

I am experiencing a little problem with SRAM or my bike shop, not sure who it is for sure, but would like to get your advice.

I purchased a 2010 Stumpy for over 2k. Since my first ride i noticed the bikes back end would shake and bounce whenever i applied the back break. It got to the point the backend would bounce all over the place when i hit the back break. I took it in the first time and was told the brakes just have to break in...i informed them i have broke brakes in before and this was different. They then told me they tightened down everything. Took it back up and problem still there. Took it back to LBS and they informed me that they did some adjustments but if it still did it bring it back and they would contact sram...they are avid breaks. Well that was the end of riding last year so the first time I took it out this year (April) the problem was still there. Took it back to the bike shop and they said they tightened everything and readjusted but if continued bring it back. Again, did the same but worse and took it back. To my surprize one of the workers informed me that the mechanic took it out and said the brakes were whacked...that they really didnt think anything was wrong with the brakes but once he rode it he immediately knew they were messed up. He then told me they would be replacing the calipers, pads and rotators. Took them some time but they finally noted the problem...i accept that...they did give me a good deal on the bike.

The problem is that it has been 2 months now since they informed me the brakes need to be replaced. They say sram is back ordered on these brakes and they are just waiting for the brakes to come in. They also informed me that I wouldnt ruin anything if i just kept riding it; however, it rides like crap as it is a mountain bike that backend shimmys everytime i break. I feel like i have been pretty patient here and it ticks me off that i paid that amount for a bike that rides like it does. You think that i would be expecting to much if i told them if the brakes are still back ordered next time i call then they should just put on the next step up in the brakes if they have them...if not then next higher if there is any? I am not trying to get my brakes upgraded, however, i have dealt with this since September of last year when i first told them the brakes acted funny. If i call and they are no longer backlogged and have the brakes then fine, put them on, however, if not i am tired of waiting and they can upgrade them. Does that sound reasonable?

Sounds to me you have been very patient. Before I got to the part where the mech. actually rode the bike I was going to say, have them ride it. Don't know myself about the backlog for the brakes, I don't see why they would give you the run around on that. I would ask if they don't come in soon for maybe a upgrade since you have waited for such a time.

Call SRAM directly and explain to them your situation exactly as you have posted here. Ask them what they can do to help you out.
You will most likely still go through your LBS, but SRAM receiving a call from a consumer may be different than an LBS.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I called the shop today and they still say sram is backlogged; however, they do have a set in stock and will replace mine with that and ask sram to reimburse them. I asked if it was a new set of brakes and was informed it was. Then asked them why they didnt do that in the first place and basically didnt get a response. Still, at least my brakes will be fixed. Again, thanks for taking the time to provide your input here.
