Another bike another forum...

I picked up a schwinn high timber 2.6fs, I'm aware this isn't a great bike but the components/frame are in good shape and I happened to have a nice 7 speed 26" wheelset laying around (by nice I mean working and semi-true). I'm going to put on a seat and take it for a ride tomorrow just to see if there's anything big I can feel right away. Are there common known problems with these bikes is what I really would like to know, and is there anything special I should do for a shakedown ride on a mountain bike? I have a decent trail in the back for a bike but no real inclines.

I'd say you're in the wrong forum for answers on that one. I'd start looking in a MUP forum, Commuter forum, maybe WalMart forum.

It's not really a mountain bike per se. It's more along the lines of a cheap hybrid.
