New Wheelset?

Hey guys I'm looking to fix up my 7 year old Cannondale f400. I need some advice on what wheelset to get. I have never had to research wheelsets before so I know nothing about what brands are good and what aren't.

Bikes: are fun to ride

7 year old, huh? Running V-brakes?

I've noticed that most pre-built wheels at the usual online stores are all disc-rim wheelset. Rim brake wheelsets are hard to find nowadays but not impossible. Vuelta make rim/disc rim/hub wheelset that are a decent value. I have a set on my commuter bike that's been bullet proof going on four years and it's still true. You can find a couple Vuelta wheelsets on ebay. Mavic still produce a rim-brake entry level wheelset, the CrossRide I think. I've used several Mavic wheelsets and they've been great but the proprietary wheel components could put one off.

You could go the custom route and you'll have to open your wallet a little wider but you'll get a wheel you want/need.

Bikes: Bike list is not a resume. Nobody cares.

Deore hub/Rhynolite rim combo is still one of the more solid values on the planet for economical/strong/v-brake-compatible setups. Jenson still sells their sets for under $100:

Bonus: You get disc hubs; so that if you ever change your mind and want to upgrade, your wheelset is ready.
