You shouldn't go based on popularity. You should go based on what feels good to you. If everyone based their purchase on popularity, then hell we'd all be riding huffy's and treks.

Bikes: Surly Karate Monkey commuter build

Specialized Hardrock Pro... and yeah, don't buy something because it's popular.. buy something because YOU like the way it rides. Who cares what everyone else thinks of your bike.

Bikes: Gary Fisher Simple City 8, Litespeed Obed

1987 Schwinn Le Tour , cost a little over $100 for the bike including updating derailleurs, saddle and paint job. If you don't mind older design aesthetics, reconditioning an old bike can result in a quality ride and be quite a conversation piece. I got it decked out like a "poor man's Atlantis" and it rides like a dream!

I ride a Kona. The best bike for you is the one that is built for the type of riding you plan to do and is the right size.
