CRCA Members - question about the sub teams

I'm not sure if this is the right area to post this or if I'd be better off in the road forum but here it goes..

This is my first season racing and I'm thinking about joining one of the sub teams in the CRCA. First, I had some questions for anyone who is currently a member of one. I understand some are more competitive than others but I was wondering what the typical time commitment is, what membership fees tend to be, how often the team trains together etc. Currently, I train 6 - 7 days a week, depending on if I take a stretch or rest day, for 1 - 1.5 hours. I would like to add some structure and discipline to training and would like to contribute/benefit from a team during races - naturally I think a sub team would be perfect for this.

If anyone wants to PM me to discuss this info privately, please feel free.

I train on pretty much the same schedule. I was cat 5 last year, and just upgraded to cat 4.

There are development teams that you just join - like Dave Jordan's or Velocity. These are teams you join to train with people and add structure to your training, get more paceline experience, etc. There are teams that you have to make it onto, or they recruit you, like Foundation.

Velocity costs, i believe, a few hundred bucks a month - they give you workouts to do, train together (though i never see them as a group in the park), etc. they're very big, and usually have like 9 guys in the cat 5 field. Personally I didn't like racing near them in the 5s, but that's all i'll say here.

I'll tell you about how my team works, but at the risk of it sounding like a commercial, just send me a PM - I can put you in touch with some people to talk to if you want more detail.

Hi,

I recently moved to NYC and joined CRCA. I too am interested in joining a sub team. Is it too late to join one for this year? Could you provide me with a bit more information about your sub team?

If you want, PM me.

Thanks for your help!
