Little late to the party, but you could meet at the Market Basket on Franklin Lakes Rd. They have a large parking lot.

It's funny how your perceptions are influenced by where you live and usually ride. You head west into the Summit/Warren area to FIND hills, while people around hear (northern Somerset County) head east into the Summit/Warren area to AVOID hills.

If you ever want a bigger hills, go about 5 miles further west, into the Bernardsville / Far Hills area. There are some pretty good climbs there, although nothing like what you find out in Hunderton and Warren Counties.

The only area of Bernardsville i'm familiar with is the library and a LBS across the street. Haven't seen much of the rest of the town yet. Sometime during the summer I might go with my friend's uncle and bike from home to Long Valley (~40+ miles). The hills around there are pretty good but I haven't brought the bike from home just yet. I'll def do Bernardsville when the weather gets better out.

I'm in Mount Olive, at the "3 corners" of Morris, Hunterdon, and Warren counties. If anyone wants a hilly ride, let me know. If you're a strong rider, though, I might have to lead in a car!

Hey guys - I'm in Madison. If you wind up doing a ride and are looking for some more to join you, please let me know. I normally ride at a "C" pace, but could do "B" if I eat my Wheaties for breakfast!

I'm not sure what "grade" rider I am. One ride leader once called me a B+. That might be right, but that was about 11 years ago. I'm now 50 years old, so I could be weaker, but I'm riding a lot more lately, and I actually feel stronger than before.

I slow down for whomever I'm riding with. My wife only goes about 9 mph, and I don't mind at all. But when I ride alone, I tend to ride hard. I also ride hard when I'm with a bunch of competitive guys.

In other words, I'm very flexible about pace.

Pug, I have lots of friends in Madison and Morristown, and I'm there often. West is really the only direction I head from here.

And junkyardbike, I'd love to ride in your area. It's beautiful there, and I enjoy hills. They're so much better than high winds.

Let me know when, and we'll plan something. By the way, I agree. As difficult as some of these hills can be, I'll take them any day over long flats with wind.

Now off to climb some of them!

Also amazing hiking trails up by the palisades (palisades interstate park) and past the NY/NJ border if youre the hike-a-bike type.
Anyone heard about the "giant steps"?

Bikes: 2011 Cervelo R3 & 07 Specialized Allez Comp & 01 Specialized Rockhopper, Framed Minnesota 2.0 Fatty

Hey all, it's been a long time since I've posted in this thread. I was curious if anyone has had any experience with Marty's Reliable in either Randolph or Morristown. I'm looking to upgrade my bike and they carry Wilier which I'm very interested in. They are a bit far from me (I'm in Livingston), but I don't mind the 20 minute drive if the shop is good.

Anyone have any thoughts or experience with them?

Thanks!

Pliggy, I've heard lots of wonderful things about Marty's. Everyone likes that business, at least the one in Morristown.

My local bike shop is High Gear Cyclery in Millburn. I couldn't be happier. If you go there, drop my name. It couldn't hurt, if you know what I mean.

High Gear also has a shop in Gillette.

Tom thanks for the info, I actually know High Gear in Millburn well - thats my current lbs and I've been extremely happy with them. I just noticed Marty's carried the Wilier which I've always loved the look of. The more I think about, the more I'm probably going to stick with High Gear and upgrade my bike with them as they really are great.

I also appreciate the offer to use your name. I've dealt with Nick and John over the years, so hopefully they help me out
