Last year in January according to my Strava, I had 41 hours of outside riding. This year, 13 hours. I blame the rain...lol

Look for me when you Zwift, I am Lance Oldstrong on there too.
I usually "wear" a GCN kit like this, but with no helmet.
I just couldn't see wearing a virtual helmet for a virtual ride.
Real ride? Helmet for sure.

Mid-January I started using Zwift and while it was raining got the 14 days in a row "Unemployed" achievement. While it was addicting, getting on it every day was a challenge, but figured there was no better time.

I think I spotted L.Oldstrong out today and gave a thumbs up.

Today's "break" included about a half inch of rain. Amazingly, they are still predicting a nice, sunny weekend! For all this torrential rain we are getting, there have actually been some halfway decent weekends thrown in there. Unfortunately, the long range forecast calls for more atmospheric river storms late next week.
How's everyone's houses doing? My backyard is like a 45 degree slope down to my back door with two 60' pines about 62' from my house, and a ton of slide-able mud, so I'm a little on edge...

My well has gone artesian. Water is also coming out of the ground in a dozen other places in my yard, which now has a significant river running through it. The ground is completely saturated. Most of my local roads are closed due to mudslides, trees down, etc. We've had at least 70" of rain since October, with a few more expected today. In a fit of optimism one sunny day, I took the trainer tire off my bike and cancelled Zwift last week. That appears to be premature.
The State of California continues to maintain water restrictions.

I feel your pain. Two of my adult daughters live in the Bay Area.
She has had enough of the rain. It's a royal mess there!
Here in So Cal it is pretty bad too. My backyard will soon be ready to plant rice. My dogs refuse to go out and take care of business. When they do go out they track mud in.
My wife is going nuts!

My golden retrievers love to roll around in the muddy water.
I imagine the septic system isn't going to be working very well.

Has anyone been up NG lately? Looks like a portion of the road is starting to slump,I hope it doesn't wash out! Sorry I don't have a picture to attach, but it's just below the final sharp right turn before the ranger house (not junction). There has been previous overlays there and existing large cracks, but they look worse now and there are new cracks as well. Also you can see the drop off to the right is sliding away. It's pretty clear this portion of the road is on fill material, so that would lend more easily to a failure. There's just so much water coming down, I'm sure the soil below is completely saturated.

but it looks really bad. And the mountain is about to get another 6 freaking inches of rain from this next atmospheric river. The craziest winter I've ever seen around here.

Yeah, that's the spot. This year there have been numerous mudslides of the hill on the left, and the scarp on the right is almost at the edge of the road. The cracks look pretty bad even in that still shot, but to me they seem worse now. I'm sure that storm drain is dumping straight onto the hillside, which isn't helping.

Highway 50 is in poor shape east of Bridal Veil Falls due to erosion under the road. Interstate 80 had a whiteout over Donner Summit.
Part of Hwy. 50 in Sierra closed as road has collapsed

Went up SG for the first time in a while, road is actually not too bad. No issues with the road itself, but there are a TON of trees just waiting to fall onto the road, with all the landslides. Some are literally in the air, only being held up by some thick roots sticking horizontally in the hillside. One blustery storm with strong winds and they will go down.
I think the sun angle is higher now, and everything is drying out faster than it would earlier in the year. Not too much running water, so hopefully we get a couple weeks to dry out a bit. I think we (nature included) are ready for a break.

And just a little ways past the last photo - NGR is closed today for a mudslide. Ranger at the Gate said we could go up but not go by. This is just before the Ranger House... about a half mile below Junction.

^^^ They put the muck on the opposite side of the road, and by 1PM or so it was open. Actually I thought they were doing some kind of repair the way the mud seemed to be fortifying the top of the embankment. But I guess it gave way across the street...

I hate indoor cycling so much that I'll rather ride in rain and mud and get drenched and clean the bike every day.
And that's pretty much what I've been doing this season.
