thanks caloso, i got them from performance bike on sale for $120 plus 20% plus some other 10% code. Seemed like a good deal after reading a lot of reviews.
I really was leaning towards speedplays (they seem very popular and highly regarded in BF) but i was a little concerned with the mixed messages
regarding the cleat durability and maintenance of the pedal. For less than $90 the Shimano ultegra pedals seemed like the way to go.
I just hope they won't be tricky to clip and unclip compared to my current eggbeaters.

I just bought a pair too!$10 each with a bottle. Sounded too good to pass up. Got the pbk version of the "chain condom" as well, and couple of vittoria tubes. If they'd have had the clincher version of the vittoria pave tires, I'd have got a pair. seriously lusting after those...

RE: Garmin Edge 500
I'm not a very critical reviewer, so I'm opting not to start a thread on it, but I will say that I'm very pleased with the 500. I was using a Cateye V3 and decided to get the 500 because I wanted to be able to record and log ride data for my own information, but didn't need the maps or routing found in, say, the 705.
In the box you get 2 bike mounts with extra rubber bands (in 2 sizes), usb cable, a CD (owner's manual), quick start guides in a bunch of languages, and an AC adaptor with 3 different power plugs. The mount is very stable and the unit itself engages with a quarter turn. I haven't had any problems acquiring satellites when powering up - takes only about 10 seconds or so for me. The display is big enough to be easily readable and it's customizable in regards to the number of fields and the information. There are 3 pages of fields and you can set it to display only the first one or it can also loop through all 3 and you have 3 different speeds at which it loops.
I bought the package with the HR and speed/cadence, so I had to swap out the Cateye speed/cadence sensor for the 500's - no big deal. I went ahead and used the Cateye magnets, though. No problems with pairing between the unit and either the HR or speed/cadence sensors.
Unfortunately, I've only been able to do 2 rather flat and in-the-open rides, so I really haven't put it through its paces yet. No problems with exporting the data to the training center software. I was looking at some of the 3rd party programs, but haven't decided on anything.
On a funny note, during my first ride where I basically just turned it on, made sure everything paired, and took off, I kept hearing the unit beep occasionally and I couldn't figure out why. The first time it happened, I had just hit a big bump and thought it had turned off and back on, but when I looked down, it was still running. It wasn't until about 30 minutes in that I finally looked down quick enough after it beeped to realize that it was notifying me that I had completed another "lap" which was set for 1 mile. D'oh!

Not the evil plan to convert Norcal BF into a motorbike and restaurant review forum?

This won't help me with the climbing either. After another flat today caused by tire being damaged by my front rim, or more precisely the dent that is in it since Spring, I finally splurged for another wheel. Picked up this beauty from Calmar for 35 bucks. It's slightly used, but hell it was 35 bucks, and they trued it. I stopped by another shop on the way back, and asked them for cheap durable wheel. The dude brought me to Shimano Dura Ace wheels. He must be making way more then me to think those are cheap. lol

I just received some Hammer stuff today--Bergamo bibs (tried them out today), some Heed, and some supplements (Insurance Caps and Appestat).
I like the Voler bibs better, I think. The chamois on the Bergamo bibs is diaper-like.
Beaker, let me know what you think of the Bergamo bibs; I'd be curious to know.

Overall, two thumbs up.

Yesterday: Picked up some MTB shoes from a teammate. Same brand/size as my road ones, he used twice and realized it was wrong size. Price was great.
Today: Went to pick up new cleats, but for $10 I got new pedals w/cleats. Also, finally got the bike ties that I always end up borrowing from BlastRadius. The Xmas socks were on super closeout, I think the kid will dig them.

Opps, that should of been $10 more. $21.99 for cleats, $29.99 for pedals w/cleats.

new wheels! Just installed them this morning. Compared to my 2000g shimano r500 clinchers, I really can't tell any difference whatsoever, lol. Although I do "feel" faster, because I look cooler.
Maybe after I put some more miles on them I will be able to tell the subtle improvements over my old wheel set.
