Wow, it was hot
Anyone else riding in the heat? I rode from the Vernita Bridge on the Columbia toward Othello today and it was pushing 100 degrees with a really annoying cross wind no matter the direction. Found it hard to stay hydrated. What are you doing to keep enough fluids in the body?

Not quite as hot here. It was 87 on the car dealer readerboard when I rode by. I just hydrate well before I leave, carry 2 water bottles, and drink lots when I get home. It's supposed to be a long, hot summer.

I would try to ride when it is cooler outside if possible. That would be a nice ride, except the hill out of Vernita Bridge, I don't recall what the shoulder is like with the trucks going up the hill.

Ideally I'd be ale to go out in the morning but work gets in the way of that plan. Maybe I'll start taking the camelback for more fluid capacity while on the ride.

One of the many reasons that I am moving to the PNW next year. We are 95+ degress from late June through early September most years. Tomorrow should be 106 and August will probably top 110-115.

Actually wasn't any worse than the back country roads with no shoulders I normally ride on. All the cars/trucks gave plenty of space when passing.

Still not enough
.
I sat in my garden earlier, in the shade, and could feel sweat trickling down my back.
Uck.
Still, I'll be riding my bike home from work tomorrow. It's only ten miles, though.

Water and heat during unsupported solo rides are tricky.
Did Washington Pass from the east yesterday. When I started in Winthrop mid-afternoon it was 95 degrees. Moderate headwind all the way up to further help dry me out, but the temps obviously got more manageable as I ascended. Still my 2 bottles was woefully inadequate. A friendly motorist gave me a liter at the overlook at the pass, and off course the Mazama store helped out on the way down.
I can see adding another bottle somewhere on the frame (3 total), but riding with a Camelbak is not something I would like to aim for. Hmm, what to do?

For me it's not really having anything against it - just never really tried it. I ride hot - i.e sweat a lot - so having something on my back to prevent heat from escaping has always made me a little hesitant to use one. That said, I do have a Camelbak and will probably start using it on longer rides.

I live on the top of spokane's south hill and the heat was just too, too brutal today. I don't remember the last time I sweated so bad on a ride up it. I drink water for the last hour or so before work, drink a gatorade at home and bathe in our sprinkler for about 30 minutes when I first here.

The wife and I were over in Winthrop earlier this week. We did a ride from Winthrop up to Washington Pass and back. We left early and got to the pass around 11:30. Nice and cool up there. Turned around and rode down...as we were getting near Winthrop I looked down at the temperature on my cycle computer and this is what I saw
Of course, the sun had been baking it which inflated the temp reading, but man was it HOT. We stopped for well-deserved ice cream in town
