Why do silly running events cost so much? How can it be that a 26-mile course costs more to operate than a 100-mile cycling event?

tell me about it. Triathlon is even worse.

Timing systems cost a lot of money, generally. Plus the roads for running races are usually all closed, while a century will have open roads most of the way.

I guess so. Two events I'm familiar with for comparison.

Cycling century $42

Marathon: $60/$75

A lot of similarities in the events, except in the marathon they mostly put out water tables, whereas the century hauls large amounts of food out to rest stops.

I'm a friendly cycling ambassador. I deserve diplomatic immunity from the Queen. If I ever go cycling there I will not be subject to speeding tickets.

Just glancing through those two...appears to be exactly as I said. The marathon has closed roads and timing chips, while the century has neither. Marathons usually provide food (gels) during the race and post-race food too, just like the century.

Yep. The Georgia one has 2 Gu stations and a water/powerade station even 1.5 miles. There's also food at the end, but it is sponsored by Publix...

I could get a ticket if the dopey policemen at school zones paid attention. Instead, they ignore me and point their radar guns in the other direction.

419 miles / 24.5hrs total. 180 "miles" / 10.4 hours of which were on the trainer

I have to break the speed limit to make all the lights at a certain stretch on my morning commute. I want nothing more than a radar cop to catch me.
