Armstrong is still fighting to keep the details of his ongoing 'whistleblower' suit with Floyd under wraps. I believe as of two weeks ago his laywers failed in their final attempts, so he will be eventually called to testify and be vulnerable to perjury charges at that time.

Since it now looks like he will be forced to, this is all simply an attempt to gain maximum benefit from a preemptive confession.

You can probably bet that if a couple of federal prosecutors aren't sitting in on the deposition, they'll be getting a copy of the transcript. A qui tam action might be brought by an individual, but the government is an interested party.

Not sure why you made the con-job past tense. NFL for one is an utter joke regards drugs regulations (players get a 4 GAME suspension for violating a threadbare drugs list), as is European soccer (the English Premier League tried bringing in random tests and the players refused to let the testers past their mansion gates). Then there is athletics. I am astonished that anyone thinks that a country as poor as Jamaica can suddenly have the fastest men and women on earth almost as quickly as snapping your fingers. Then there is hockey, baseball... the list goes on.

And when you look at how crooked the federations are, it just gets worse. I challenge anyone on this thread to say that McQuaid, even Verbruggen, is more corrupt than Sepp Blatter, or that the UCI is worse than the IOC. Heck, comparing with these jokes McQuaid comes across as rather benign.

NFL players get a 4 game suspension for a first violation of the drug policy. From there, it goes to 8 games on the second, and a full season for the third. It may not sound like much, but you have to keep a few things in mind. Teams have limited roster spots, and can't carry an ineligible player on the roster for very long. They usually will carry someone on a 4 game suspension. But unless a player is a Pro Bowl talent, they may not carry him for 8 games, or half a season. And they won't carry anyone for a full season. Contracts aren't guaranteed. Getting cut means no more paychecks. If some other team signs a suspended player down the road when his eligibility is restored, chances are it will be for a LOT less money. And while the drug list might be short, it's targeted at the drugs that actually enhance a football player's performance. EPO and blood doping don't provide much, if any benefit, to an athlete whose sport requires strength, speed, and agility, expending effort in short but intense bursts of a few seconds. Anabolics/HGH, stimulants, and stuff that benefits them are what are banned, as well as all illegal recreational drugs. Testing positive, even for reefer, gets you suspended. The suspensions are for games that count--regular season and playoffs. Not pre-season games.

I hear you with respect to Bolt and the rest of the sprinters, but Jamaica has a long history of world class sprinters, going back to Lennox Miller in the 60s and Don Quarrie in the 70s. They didn't exactly come out of nowhere on the world stage.

I always get a kick out of folks defending the NFLs record on PEDs. Tell us about the NHL next, eh?

It will be a "no holds barred" interview. Yeah, sure. Oprah as a prosecuting attorney? I don't think so.

Of course, this comes of the heels of news that Tygart says Armstrong, through his cronies, offered to donate $250,000 to USADA in 2004. Armstrong has denied he made the offer. Tygart was careful to say the offer was made one of Armstrong's representatives.

There has to be a movie in there somewhere, but it's already turning into a must-see soap oprah.

I don't think that anyone with even a casual interest in cycling has the right to knock any other sport's record on PED.

Congratulations, and God bless, to all the sane and disciplined folks in this forum who will disdain watching the trashy media circus of Lance on Oprah: Salute !

Yep, of all the douchy moves a disgraced athlete can make, going to Oprah is #1.

I used to be a fan, don't care anymore; better things to do in life than to watch Armstrong yenting it up with Oprah.

Now, if Lance agreed to be interviwed by Howard Stern, then I would watch that.

https://nyvelocity.com/content/toto/2011/toto-turns-230

Why not Walsh? Kimmage? How about an interview with anyone who can actually ask a real question?

Tygart will be interviewed tonight at 10:00 on Showtime Channel. I don't get Showtime but it may be streamed on some web site but have not found it yet.
Also Lance is set to be interviewed by Ophra on her OWN on Jan. 17th.
From all that I've read, they still have nothing on him. In a preview of the Sports 60 Minutes show, Tygart said that all of his test from 1999 have been retested for EPO and they came back flaming positive for EPO which they did not have a test for in 99. If they did not have a test for it, how could it be banned in 99 and are they testing every place winner for EPO? If not, why not. I still believe that all consistent winners and rated pros were doping and he did just what they all did to be competitive. IMO anyone that did not use during those times vanished from the scene and that is so sad. I hate that for them and the sport. He is still the best cyclist of all times in my humble opinion. I hate doping but the fact is all my favorite cyclist even the great Eddy doped. So sad. I would love for all, USADA. ICU/UCI, etc. come together and allow all the cyclist to come clean and fight to clean up cycling and not allow one man, Tygart to attack any one competitor for personal reasons. I get Ophra, OWN and the Jan 17th Lance interview will be streamed on her web site, Ophra.com. I will copy and watch it but my guess he will deny, deny, deny. It was good enough for our President and IMO Mr Tygart, it is good enough for him. As I said a long time ago, If Lance is proved guilty, then USADA, UCI have much bigger internal problems than LANCE.

There is a reason Lance decided not to contest the investigation. Obviously he knew that they did have something quite damning on him or LA would never have changed his tune at that time. Not very hard to guess that one or two of his close racing team mates had confessed and he/they told Lance about it, or LA found out about it another way.

Lance is not going to deny on the Oprah show. He would already have attended any and all investigation proceedings and denied there (again) if that were possible for him to still do credibly, instead of not contending the charges.

He will not contest the charges on Oprah either.

He will do as Pete Rose did, only with the staging advantage in the very sympathetic and almost universally admired big O overseeing the event. Like a beloved cardinal at a parish confession ceremony, or something like that
