Recumbent What IS that thing?! Recumbents may be odd looking, but they have many advantages over a "wedgie" bicycle. Discuss the in's and out's recumbent lifestyle in the recumbent forum.

Longest Ride to Date

Took my Catrike Expedition on a 43.5 mile ride today. It was the longest ride I have ever done on a bike/trike. This past weekend my Uncle and I knocked out a 33 mile ride which was the longest ride I had done to date. I was stuck in town today with nothing really to do so I figured I would load up the trike with snacks and water and head out. I almost hit a raccoon crossing the road about mile 7, he was running across a bridge and the lack of cars I guess made him at ease and not aware of the fat guy on a red trike blazing at him, and no he didn't show signs of rabies. The rest of the ride was pretty slow going, averaged a little over 12mph. I am planning a 75 mile ride once it gets cooler and today was a good gain and land mark in my training. I think I could have gone further but I didn't want to over do it. I was tired at the end of the ride but not exhausted, I felt I could have gotten 50 miles in pretty easy. I drank 107oz of water, ate 2 Honey Stinger Energy Gels, and 2 Honey Stinger Waffles over the whole trip and had to stop to pee three times so I don't feel I was dehydrating myself, pretty clear urine. I however did run out of water about a mile from my house, no big deal really, I had passed up buying more water at a convenience store about mile 38. I do need to find a larger water carrying device to refill my 25oz water bottles from or plan on carrying money so that I can spot along the way to buy water. Here is my Garmin Connect link if anyone is interested. 43.5 Mile Ride

Bikes: You mean this week?

You might find it easier to skip the little water bottles and use a water bladder in a seat bag. An Outdoor Research water bladder is available at our local WalMart in the sporting goods section for about $10. Now for the slightly less ordinary... I found a Case Logic oxygen bottle carrier on clearance at my local drug store, and used that to put the water bladder in. It's just the right size, comes with its own straps, is padded (aka insulated), and has a drawstring closure to make removal of the water bladder easy. I think Hostel Shoppe and others also sell hydration bladders that may work for you. Here is a picture of my solution:
