Oh, but he enriched my day!!! Love shouting matches with grizzled old guys. The key is to keep yelling while they're yelling.

dirtyphotons 04-19-06 08:11 AM

yeah, when something like that happens i remind myself that his punishment is to be a miserable old man. so miserable in fact that he can't keep his good vibes up while riding his bike on a beautiful morning like today. that's a fate far worse than anything i could dish out. then i prescribe myself two cans of sparks (at least) and (in this case) a game of bike polo. i think we all know who comes out ahead.

jonny5 04-19-06 08:15 AM

LBK, awesome open letter. i think i've met this doctor before, but he was driving a car, and only had a few seconds to suggest a medical solution to my bike problem. Even though he was busy, obviously heading to the hospital in a hurry, he rolled down his window and took time out of his day to help me out. That was really generous of him.

Unfortunately, the guy I met in a car this morning was not a doctor. he refused to stop at a stop sign a block from my house, cut me off, and then gesticulated offensively in my direction. so i chased mr. DC tags BU-923 down, and gave him a DNA sample in the form of saliva on his hood. who knows, maybe his analysis will lead to a better informed diagnosis.

In other news, why ride Hains? come ride in rock creek park! 6pm-ish, beach and ridge rd. 5-mile time trials, up and down some good hills.

chimblysweep 04-19-06 08:32 AM

jonny5, it's polo night! 7pm, 14 & K, you know the drill.

rpc180 04-19-06 08:35 AM

LBK, eloquence in action :) That letter deserves its own thread.

Rock Creek is tempting, but I'll never get there in time, don't get out of work until 6pm.

I gotta TCB tonight and will forego polo. enjoy, and welcome back! you better get back to riding!

poopncow 04-19-06 01:51 PM

Yeah Tink, EBK is getting FAST and will kick your rump if you slack off, esp if she forgets her meds.

remember, anger can make you freaking fast!

DC_Emily 04-19-06 02:16 PM

Will everyone please join me in a slow clap for LBK's amazing recount of her morning commute....

polo is at sherwood, 14 & K NW, 7pm. i think we might need to bring a broom today, though, there are lots of "remnants of spring" about.

Just think of the fallen cherry blossoms as decorations. Besides, it adds an interesting component if the wind or tire can add a smokescreen to the game. :D

What we learned last night....

4 on 4 pole is a bad idea. Just ask Tinks twisted fork.

tink20seven 04-20-06 08:34 AM

yup.
i buggerd it well

rode home brakeless wondering with every bump if my wheel was going to fly off
not the funnnest time let me tell you

so i'm going to take a trip over to my friendly LBS today after work and assess the damage.

4 on 4 pole
yeah, not so much.
talk about a sausage party!!!

what he meant to say, was that we played 4 on 4 polo at sherwood last night and it was insane
quarters were really tight and there was a notable increase in collisions

that being said, i was really impressed with the level of play from everyone last night.
it really seemed likek we were getting better.
and nick,,,
wow
nick was kicking some serious butt. (not to mention busting natty-fabs all over the place)

yeah it was a good time.
should have been there

hot pole on pole action indeed!

Elbeekay 04-20-06 10:42 AM

In other non pole news, here are a couple items of local interest.

To follow up on my drunken talking points from the other night, on the subject of midgets and burritos, I tentatively propose a Midgets N Anita's Ride, date TBA. This ride will be WOD-centric (shout-out to Rince and Spud!) out to Vienna to see "Midgetville" before it is torn down http://www.roadsideamerica.com/tips/...actionNo==4204
and to eat burritos, ideally their awesome .99 breakfast burritos, at Anita's.

Also, here's this: http://www.bscl.org/histride.htm
The route is pretty much the Arlington Loop (or Triangle, whatever), which is nothing too exciting, but it's fun to learn about history. That super-lame public art piece in Rosslyn is explained. Apparently, it's a henge!

BoogerBike 04-20-06 10:57 AM

LBK all look good.

Dam, I can't spell. Pole=Polo

There are a few non standard houses that seem abandoned, but other than that...

We could also go to the Vienna Inn. http://www.viennainn.com/

...there is mystery and adventure?!?!

Or just an excuse to ride the WOD and eat Anita's. Or at the Vienna Inn...a nice chili mac chaser for after the burritos. mmmm....gurgly.

dirtyphotons 04-20-06 12:41 PM

whoa, midgetville! i went there a couple times as a kid (never harassed the residents, but they clearly didn't appreciate the company) no midgets, just slightly smaller houses, and a bit sketchy even if you're in a car. pirates go where they please, but gravel roads, angry locals, and fascist vienna police make it a dicey excursion.

i love the vienna inn, it reminds me of my childhood (they used to sponsor my little league team!). vegetarians might find their menu a bit limiting, but there's a whole foods across the street and two good veggie restaurants a short ride away. should be no problem finding something for everyone.

also i bet my mom would meet us at the bike path with some fresh baked cookies.

hmmmm.... cookies!!!

And yes, the Sunflower Vegetarian Restaurant in Vienna is awesome (I assume that is one of the two you mentioned). Even non-vegetarians (like me) would love it.

Polo last night was much awsomeness. Best we've had in a long time. :)

Glad there were no (human)injuries. Hope they can fix your fork,Tink.

The trip out and back was just as exciting as the play on the field. Idiots on Mass Ave parking in the right lane and Type-A taxi drivers on my way to Sherwood, almost getting taken out by a diplomat on the way home. People's getting nutsy with this warm weather. :(

Re: midget run. Sounds like a job for a MTB. ;)

Re: midget run. Sounds like a job for a MTB. ;)

Is Sherwood a park or rec center or what? 14 & K sounds like it must be just north of McPherson-correct? I have a physical therapy session tommorrow afternoon on my shoulder in Dupont and an vision stop at Farragut, so maybe I'll take half an hour to scout the location tommorrow.

How late do you play-till dark or do you have lights ovehead or do you continue in the dark or with headlights or is there a time cutoff?

Since the TT in Rock Creek park is the same night, does anybody wander over to Sherwood from the TT for a double header?

I'm mending a shoulder these days from a Mt. Vernon Trail crash-is this another potential source for more fractures?
