just wondering if anyone knows where to find TUFO tires in toronto? just the S22 pro's...
or do i have to wake Vlad up by calling him and ordering online???
that west-coast chillaxin' god damn.......
im also thinking of converting to brifters, but its a touch cost prohibitive at the moment......
anyone with 8speed or higher downtube shifters they want to unload?
running 8 speed friction at the moment and its OKAY.. have done about 300 kms friction..
but the precision of indexing is leaving me feeling all empty.. . hahah

invodane engineering
saw them up close a few times years ago. They looked fairly well built, but maybe not quite the capacity of other long cargo bikes, but I've always secretly wanted one
*edit* beaten to it

demonoid.com should be pretty good, not sure how fast the stages get up, but they do and tend to have lots of seeders, if you want an invite PM me, not sure if registration is open without an invite right now
if you get OLN they rerun it at night and i assume versus.com reruns it streaming

i saw that true north was making them but i was hoping to avoid a custom job because of the cost. i'm going to email that invodane (sp?) guy and ask - i think i remember seeing one of his at the bike show a few years ago.

Not to be a jackass, but you're going to have a hard time finding anything under $2500 - $3000 custom or import. It would be great if they'd be cheaper (I'd buy one myself), but they're really prohibitively expensive, often very heavy, and pretty specialized as haulers go. These are true work bikes. Trailers or home-made extra-cycles work better for mere mortals.

also notice on my last trip back from the island, when getting off the ferry; when you exit through the west side gate right next to the edge of the pier there looks to be an old (possibly abandoned?) long john cargo bike locked up behind a fence. Pretty beat up and sitting on flat tires half covered in rust... not sure if it's still there or not, or who it belongs to.

the thing that appeals to me about a cargo bike is being able to carry the kid in front of you and still have a nice low centre of gravity. for some reason i feel a bit uncomfortable with him way behind me in a trailer. plus he hates the car and i'm afraid that a trailer will remind him too much of that...

I don't find the trailer to be too far back of me. It is quite visable and drivers take extra care when they see me with it attached to the bike. That being said I stick to side streets and don't ride that fast. If you want to give mine a try when I get back in August give it a go.

Those 3-wheel'd adult trikes can carry a good amount of cargo and they are fairly cheap. I took my 2 week's worth of garbage down to the depot on one today, it worked really well.

We're getting an official "kid" trailer, but I'm also considering getting the bikes at work trailer just 'cause it's so damn useful (especially when you don't have a car) If I get that I'll probably rig up some way to put a child seat designed for a car onto it.
Jeremy- I see where you're coming from with the kid in front of you and all, what about if your wife rides sweep?
I've only ridden a big cargo bike like the one you are talking about a few times, they take a bit of getting used to but smooth sailing once you do. A guy on Sorauren had one of those with a baby seat rigged up in the cargo bay, it worked pretty well for him and his kid has moved to a jump seat on one of those big 'ol dutch bikes with 2 spots on the back for the kiddies. His bike was made by a guy on the island. Local, and around 3 grand. I wasn't too impressed with it though. The concept was nice, but the welding was really sloppy and there were other weird things like XT hubs built up with $2 single wall rims. I could probably find his contact info if you'd like to find out more about his bike... his kids are pretty big now, perhaps he might sell you his!
If you do get a cargo trailer- get good puncture resistant tires! Those big dutch things are a pain in the ass to change a flat on, as you often have an internal hub, drum brake and full chain case as well.

so i saw my friendly neighbourhood traffic cop on the way home today. he had a car stopped at an intersection, lights flashing, blocking the right-turn side of the lane, backing up vehicles for a ways. then he proceeds to get in his squad car and pull (a very messy) U-turn, now further blocking traffic from both directions.
i couldn't resist calling out "nice U-ie, st. clair..." to which i hear a syrupy "why, thank-you"
