heehee what a blast this morning. Fully kitted roadie-type commuter blows by me as I leave the east end (@the DVP) via Queen. This, of course, cannot go unanswered so I tuck in behind him. He notices my shadow and proceeds to spend from River to Yogne trying to shake me ... runnin' all through the gears, slowing/jumping up on the pedals. No luck for him and a big grin on my face when I said see ya later as I peeled off south to get to work. Fun stuff.

i agree, great ride this morning.
ppl were in good spirits. my commute is yonge/sheppard to king/bay... I take yonge down until just past dupont and swing across to bay.
just after the bridge past summerhill station, there was construction at hte base of the lampost on the right. so instead of leaning on that post at the red, i lean on a taxi! the cop at the corner says "hey man, careful! that taxi may charge you!" and i just say "i usually lean on that pole but u guys got it!"
the taxi driver laughs and so does the cop.
pretty good
then down south of bloor on bay, a bus is on the right, instead of staying on the right i lane split and lean on the bus signal right at the drivers seat. i think i scared the driver cuz he didn't notice at first, so then i say "hey how goes the battle this morning" and the driver says "hey man all good with you guys riding right beside me" then the light goes green and i say "have a good day! and he says "take care, buddy". talk about wow the driver was a yonger guy tho with a spanish accent? not all ttc are that friendly, for sure.
i usually lean on poles at the lights instead of unclipping or trackstanding between a sea of ppl at the crosswalk..

All this nice weather and here I am, with 3 weeks off, rebuilding my basement. It's incredible how easily things can turn from a simple flooring replacement into a full-blown renovation. It's also shocking just how bad some of the work done by professionals for the previous owners is, and how many corners were cut for no apparent reason.
To maximize the size of the finished basement, the walls separating the utility room were done so that the floor drain ended up in the finished area and simply covered over by carpet. Correcting that has at least given me new storage space for 6 of my 7 bikes. When I'm not in the basement, I'm haunting Home Depot and Rona. I'm afraid I will just have to take some time out to go riding soon before this all too short summer ends.

^word^ to the too short summer. As it is I got ONE sunburn this summer.... and it was in New York! ONE!!! It was 12 degrees when I woke up yesterday, and now the harvest moon last night. WTF!?!
#880
i don't mind the temperatures (i can do without the 40 degree with humidity days) but the rain is ridiculous.
best sunburn i've gotten this year was between my knee warmers and socks, basically 1/4 of my leg only in the back sunburned. i couldn't wear shorts that week.

jeremy - I've used tire levers to pop the last little bit of bead over the rim on some new Rubinos that were impossible to get on. You just need to be really careful about ripping the tube if you do use the lever.Just put the lever under the bead with the hook facing downwards towards the rim and pry up. Should pop right on

Hm i'd like to get one of those, how much? And i'm no expert on the subject but i suppose the bike will be fine hanging off the front wheel only, for extended periods of time?
#887
You just need to ensure the 4 screws go into a wall stud. I have had my bikes hanging from them for about a year now with no issues. The forces on the wheel are far less than when riding.
As for $, they're free to a good home.

the tire went on much easier than i thought - i just used the levers as i usually do and held the other end between my knees to keep it in place. i had a harder time mounting some old rubinos a while back....

Just a few quick questions though; Firstly do I start fighting before getting blindingly drunk or do I wait for the liquid courage to kick in and then go search for the biggest Spanish dude I can find? Secondly, when I decide to turn my hooliganism towards the field do I light projectiles on fire pre-flight or do I allow them to light themselves when returning into the atmosphere? *sigh* I have been a docile ACC corporate leafs fan for far too long.

Well seeing that we have a real grass turf for the day ... grab some O that after the game.. they are tossing it on Sunday afterall...makes an awesome living room carpet if you grab enough..leasing agreements be damed. Then extract some Real Madrid DNA and make some real CDN soccer players. You got tickets? I suggest bringing a hockey stick if you planning on starting a riot otherwise you'll be hopelessly outclassed by any Euro-hooligans who be slumming in North America.
Those with zoom lens envy were turned away yesterday....though not sure why. So if you are bringing a camera make sure the zoom doesn't extend out too too much. Sucking the media teet perhaps in not allowing the fan to capture better shots than the press?

Apparently they are donating the grass to three schools, which is a pretty neat idea. I think whoever goes tomorrow to the game has to start Leaf chants. "Let's Go, Sundin". Just to cause havoc.
On a bicycling note, good interview with Canada's only rider in the Tour:
