They're talking about cyclists having to get a license to ride a bike now. I ****ing hate this city. If it's not the worst major city to ride a bike in, it has to be in the top five.

A license doesn't make much sense to me but I would like to see safer cycling habits exhibited by both cyclists and motorists....are there any cycling-related questions in the requirements to get a driving license?

What a bunch of clueless morons. Instead of making cyclist easier, let's introduce laws which will do the exact opposite.

A 'prominent plate'? I seem to recall some cities had them back in the '60s. They bolted to the front axle and were about 1/4 the area of a car plate. Big, ugly things. I can't picture a family forking out huge $ for one of these for all the kids' bikes.

I just can't see it being feasible, and like said above - it makes cycling way less accessible.

It'd be good to see some enforcement and education on both sides, apparently there's now a blitz going on with cyclists (I was already flagged down and given a safety brochure yesterday at Broadview/Danforth) and they're cracking down on all kinds of cycling infractions, apparently (I think it was The Sun I read it in. Licensing just doesn't seem a good idea, impractical and given cars and cabs are licensed, and their enforcement seems meagre at best when it comes to the cycle/car interaction issues really - so what difference would it make, I wonder.

It sure will. You just need to make sure you follow to the left as you exit the lower Don instead of going right into Taylor Creek.

My gut feeling says that the question posed above this answer in the article isn't word-for-word as it was asked ("What about giving tickets to those cyclists who break the rules, those rolling through or running lights?") The answer seems like it's addressing rolling stops @ 4 way stop signs.. I can't imagine a cop ever condoning running a light.

So I've decided to finally stop procrastinating and put together a road repair kit, after having a flat and needing to walk for over an hour to get home. I'm looking for a pump that is strong and durable enough to be used as my regular at home pump (the old garage pump just bit the dust a few days ago), but also be portable enough to carry with me. I was looking at the Topeak Road Morph and one of the Lezyne micro floor drives; everyone seems to love the Road Morph, but I'm not a big fan of plastic heads, that's why my old garage pump died. The Lezynes look quite nice, and the screw on chuck looks great, but they're a fair bit more expensive. Any other options I'm missing?

Also, anyone have any luck with those glueless patch kits I keep hearing about?

The cost of administering and enforcing a bicycle licence system would likely be revenue negative and I don't see any particular benefit for the city or the cyclist. Similarly, mandatory helmet legislation has significant promotion and enforcement costs associated with it. There's also some evidence that mandatory helmet laws decrease bicycle utilization so there can be a negative population health impact.

Michael Walker has always struck me as rather daft, so I don't suspect this will go very far. It's also not the first time it's come before council. In all previous instances that I'm aware of, it's been turned down.

I just used a Lezyne for the first time yesterday (full size floor model though, but looks to be the same chuck as the micro), and it was awesome having a screw-on for a presta valve.. I tend to bend my valves with hand pumps / clamp ons.

Got two flats (!) in the office yesterday.. someone left staples on the floor near the door. I picked them out, patched the tube + reinflated, but missed the little "staple leg" that was stuck in my tire -> 2nd flat before I hit the road. Grr...

the road morph is the one. Save yourself some grief and get a floor pump for home too. The topeak floor pumps are pretty decent too, although a $20 plastic beto pump will outlast it.

I don't care for glueless patches. Rema patches ftw.

I wish there was clear information on bike lines, in that cyclists are ALLOWED to actually leave those lanes as needed. I had a guy scream at me yesterday because I dared to exit the bike line and pass a weaving hobo riding along and talking on his cell phone.

I have the Road morph on my road bike. It's nice for the ride, but I find I have problems going over 70-80 psi, which is more than adequate to get home. But I got the $24 beto pump from MEC and keep that at home.

+1 on road morph, i have a mini one and a full one

as far as glueless patches go, they work to get you home, the tube should be replaced once you get home ... i carry them as a backup for multiple flats, but i always have at least 1 tube, maybe 2 if i'm doing long distances

i like the road morph for two reasons, one you're not attaching the pump directly to the valve, it has a hose like the lezyne (although it locks on instead of threading on), and two that little tab that comes out makes it much more like a floor pump which makes it much easier than any other pump i've tried

I just looked in my patch kit, bloody glue has dried up AGAIN!

Why does this seem to happen to everyone? I've got tubes that are several years old and still fine. what gives?

Anyone know a store in Toronto that sells Lezyne pumps? I think I heard that Curbside does, but are there any other options?

Hey Krusty. Living out near Hastings/Boundary at the moment (like 10 minutes from the track). But i'll be moving soon. Hard to find non complete ****holes for a million dollars a month on CL. It's awesome to be 15 minutes instead of 90 minutes from work.
