Bullcrap. I can't make that :( And it took me 1 minutes 50 seconds to load this 34kb bikeforums page. Jeez-us. |
anyone have any St. Patrick's Day plans? We're apparently all getting a half day at my office... I'm hoping it's nice out for an afternoon ride ending with beers. Anyone else available (weather permitting)? Shiznaz: I assume you'll be snowboarding again. :)

When exactly is that.

I inputted our ride into gmap but was too lazy too save it and link it. So here we go!
Palmerston S. to queen queen e. to spadina spadina s. to esplanade esplanade e to bay Bay/york n to queen queen e to broadview broadview to sidestreet lookout over dvp n/w of danforth doobie break side streets to pape and cosburn pape n. over leaside bridge laird n to moore moore w past mt pleasant, south to st clair st clair w to yonge yonge s to davenport davenport w to dupont dupont w to bathurst bathurst s. to starting point google maps said 24km, but the fact that the red line does not fall directly over the route makes me distrustful. My previous estimate was 20-25km anyway though so it cant be that far off. for myself + 18km from the beaches downtown round trip. Andrew PS we could also call the ride "Critical Acclaim" |
critical doobie break?

Hey at my work (Cycle Solutions beaches) we have these Black Spire DH cranks in 165 and 110 spacing, shimano octalink compatible. I've decided that the only conceivable use for them at this point is for a fixed rider. They are not quite as shiny as the On-ones but they are Shaq-Diesel beefy. So if anyone wants them let me know (pm) and I will give you a CRAZY deal. PS they come with a 44t ring.
And next Critical Condition ride I would like to see at least one bike that rivals the ghetto fabulous nature of my own. Andrew |

Wow! I totally remember that incident! Karma is awesome except when it comes to returning cell phones to me! (on a side note: If anyone finds or knows anybody who found an orange LG flip camera phone please I want it back)
On a side note, thanks Gokiburi! I do not remember your real name though. And there are 2 Andrews at my work so make sure if I'm not there to direct any beer deposit to 'Maki'. Not that beer is even really necessary, I just have a huge problem turning down free beer. Andrew |
Hey Gokiburi:
Update on karma! Went out at about 8 tonight to go meet my friend, in full street clothes and shoes (put the flat XTs back on the bike). Anyway, she flaked out on me, so I figured I would go for a spin. Started going west on Queen, saw this courier I always see riding this super trick Euro mountain bike everywhere and raced him for a bit, stopped to take off my hoodie (it was warm). Made it up to Bloor, then took it west to Dundas (the final time they cross over). Started heading along Dundas, figuring I would hit the Miss. border and head back. But I soon realized that I was in Mississauga already so I just kept on motoring. Was going to turn down Hurontario but decided to keep going. Was going to turn down Mavis but kept going. Came to Mississauga Rd, and seeing the leg breaking hill that awaited had I chose to keep going.....I hung a left. Good decision, as this street parallels the Credit River, is winding, rolling, has more million dollar houses than I could keep track of, a bike lane, smooth pavement AND tonight there was this crazy mystical eerie fog the whole way down. Got down to the Lakeshore and headed back east, hit the path just before the Humber bridge, then up to King where construction has begun at Marilyn Bell park. Took King all the way back east and came to Parliament. Remember that spot? As I approach the intersection a garbage truck comes across the centre line into my right lane to pick stuff up. I slowly get in between the streetcar rails to ride across Parliament and pass the truck, gingerly crossing the bisecting rails in the intersection, get past the truck, and attempt to get back on the road. SMASH! Rider down. Not 20 feet from where I saw you with the twisted stem. So......how is that for karma? Oh yeah, and when I got even closer to home, like, within 2km I got a flat. Bringing me to 3 on the year, which is kind of a lot for 2 1/2 months (just please not during a race!). So anyway, that was my night. Ride would have been about 3 hours if not for extenuating circumstances. And here is the Gmap you have all been waiting for: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=63432 Night all! Andrew |
Wow nice ride!
It seemed pretty scary outside from where i'm sitting. |
damn that's a huge ride for an evening, awesome. I never have that kind of energy after work these days...
Riding west first then heading home in an eastern direction is always good... I was reminded of that as I crawled into a 40km/h headwind this morning going west over the bloor/danforth bridge.. |
Those is some nice cranks, I looked up the Blackspire's and they are hella beefy.
Shiz...is there still snow somewhere? I want take the kids skiiing maybe Friday. All this road route talk making me hungry. The fog the other night was cool, trippy for riding, and me without a camera. BTW I'm Andrew as well to add to the confusion. lol |
There was snow last week up in collingwood, but its been ungodly warm recently. I did hear that they were expecting some snow up there this week though, so it may still be good. I just warn you that this friday at blue mountain is going to be really really really busy. In fact the group I go up with has cancelled this friday's trip to do paintball or go kart or something instead. Good luck though!

i don't know, i always felt weird about green beer. if you're drinking beer on st patricks day it should be black and white... |
yeah, that's what I was thinking. Any beer I plan on drinking would need an unhealthy amount of food colouring before you could see any green colour. :P
Anyone else interested? Too bad CM isn't this Friday. :) |
i know most of us here ride in the city and aren't fans of your typical spandex / sausage casing cycle-clothing. you may have heard of hypnotic designs, a clothing company out of california that makes bike clothing that is comfortable on the bike (technical fabric, etc) but looks normal in the grocery store. i have some of their stuff and it is top drawer so i thought i'd pass on the fact that they just released a new version of the knickers and so the old ones are on sale, as are their vests (for super cheap). i bought the pants at full price and they are worth it so now if you bought them you're makin' money. the vests are the deal of the year. i don't work for them BTW:

Not to gross anyone out, but when I was in first year university in residence we took a big group out to the james joyce for saint pattie's day. People drank much too much and I had to pretty much carry two girls back to the residence building, but not before they both threw up on the street. Just taking a quick glance at the vomit you could see a golf ball sized congealed lump of green goo in each. ******** disgusting and I'm never drinking green beer again. It congeals into a gross stomach ball that I don't like to think about.
On another note: anyone up for the alleycat happening on saturday? I'd like to do it but I don't wanna go alone! On another other note: Today I was riding along college and some guy comes up on me reallyt fast on a road bike. Then he introduces himself as Martino, the guy who took those pictures of us on our ride. Then he says "Thanks for keeping the city beatiful!" Nice guy. Then shortly afterwards I saw some dude riding on a KHS flite fixed gear with his chuck taylors in his hands on the bars. He wasn't riding very well... Then just after that I saw this crazy ancient 2 foot bearded roadie guy with a mirror on his helmet speed by on his Felt. It was awesome, he looked like sheldon brown but older, more beardy and skinnier. |
Are those alleycats fixed only
