Hook me up!

Tino and I were talking GO to Oakville and then ride to the grapes and back this week... perhaps the glen williams ride will follow...

I don't think anyone here other than Canice really knows him but in case anyone is interested, our friend Jason apparently didn't fare so well at Disco Inferno last night. We'd kind of figured that'd he'd dropped out which a logical assumption knowing Jason, but a poor one as he and a car collided and he's in the hospital with a badly broken shoulder.

I dated the whole band way back in the day but they wanted to make me a kept man and told me I couldn't ride my bike if I wanted to continue to be their groupie. The rest is history.

Shoulder or collarbone? That sucks *****. I have busted/dis-located both over the years. Give him some time and he will be back as good as new in no time. When I broke my collarbone at the NACCC's in Toronto in 99' a whole bunch of Bostonians commented on how I now have the "shoulder bump" which apparently is some kind of badge of honour. At least he came out to represent.

Hey Cavernmech (or any other MTB folks)... I think I noticed you were running a Reba on your Kona... any advice on setting the +/- air pressure on that baby? The documented pressures in the RS manual are way too high from what I can tell. I started fiddling with my setup on the weekend and I'm starting to think there is a magic ratio or something out there...

That's what I thought - it wouldn't have been totally out of the ordinary.

I just got off the phone with his mom and she said that his shoulder is broken in 3 places and is still at St Mike's. She still doesn't know what happens but said he was definitely hit by a car... A couple of us are going to go over at lunch and bring him fuzzy teddybears and the like - I'll tell him that he's earned his badge of honor as well.

It totally differs dependent on frame type/geometry, rider weight and riding style. I started with the settings on the recommended pressures then messed with it till I got it where I like it. It is really a trial and error process. I kept my shock pump in the camelback so I could mess with the settings on the trail. Once you get it where you like it, write down all the settings, including gate clicks ie: 2 clicks from full positive

jason broke his shoulder in three places and had surgery yesterday. we're going to visit him in an hour or so.

almost every cyclist i know has been hit in the last month or two, or had very close calls. after saturday night's confrontation with the cab, i'm scared it's just a matter of time before i get f---ed up by a car.

I'll see you there - Aner BSOD#1 and I are going to leave around 11:30...

You can't look at it that way because then you are always dreading the inevitable - just keep your wits about you, do your best to anticipate driver's / other cyclist's / pedestrian's moves and prepare yourself accordingly... A healthy fear is good enough to keep you on your toes but don't let it give way to that constant dread in which case you'll stop enjoying your time on the bike altogether.

PS - you should still PM me with that cab info.

Use the Shwartz.
Damn...heal up fast Jason.
Canice .... many of us have been riding for many many years without getting smashed. It's all about the head's up, some luck and knowing what's happening around you at all times. Unfortunately when racing' around the frequency of close calls increases. Late night weekend riding is playin' with the drunks.

Been lurking over here for a minute so I decided to get on the train...

Disco inferno was cool...my girl just got her bike that day (which after this weeknd she LOVES) so we decided to head over. Good times...sucks about Jason...get well soon! Looking forward to the next one, I'm in for next one for sure but I'm definite that the stamina will be needed to be built up...

On another note...I was having a conversation with a fellow bike enthusiast & good friend. She had an interesting story for me...

She lives behind the Value Village on Queen & Logan. One day she noticed a bike locked up to a fence that "looked like mine", ie: she noticed the Deep V's on the bike. What struck her as odd was that fact that the bike was locked up to the fence with a s**t lock that definitely didn't offer much security. Over the next few days what she noticed was odd. Piece by piece, the components of the bike started to disappear until only the frame was left, which eventually disappeared. After bike #1 was gone, she noticed a NEW bike locked up to the fence, which again looked like a fixie and same deal...little by little pieces stripped off the bike. The topper to the story was that she said that one of the bikes had ORANGE DEEP V's on it!! Immediately I thought..."Toby's bike!". She went on to explain that one of the bikes was black and the other blue but couldn't really remember more details. She did phone the police and explained what she has been observing. Obviously some sort of bike theft operation....

So if you're riding the alleys keep an eye out in that area, she's gonna let me know if anything else shows up there...

Yeah that's exactly where I am... I love the fact that it is sooo adjustable but it's a bit of a double edge sword.

hmm web cam from the window? If it's an operation on the go, somebody's gotta burn 'em. A fixie chopshop in the east end...not allowed. Do you know what the police told her? I mean if they see more patrolling then they just lock up somewhere else ..... it sounds like it's really close to the home though if they are just removing pieces from there. Where's the fence she's observing this?

Fuzz you're a beast in the east too...nice. Talk came up of a possible East vs West team alleycat..or even a stage alleycat... who'd be interested? This is merely idea stage.

Yep I'm right at Jimmie Simpson park... as for the East/West alleycat that could be very interesting.
