I be the bearer of terrible news.
while on his way back to Ontario, while cycling through Manitoba, Our friend Charlie aka Shiznaz, was struck and killed by a drunk driver. Details are still a bit sketchy, but this info comes from someone in Charlies family. Details on service will be forthcoming as soon as they are known.

I wish it was. I'm just going to copy and paste an email I just sent to my gf (and Mike).
I just got a phone call that said "name withheld", so I didn't answer. Checked my voicemail 5 mins later and it was a message from Dominique saying that she had something important to tell me and to call her back right away. I assumed she was just being silly, although she's only called me a couple times before so I was kind of curious. So I called her back and she said that Charlie was hit by a drunk driver while riding through Manitoba and he's dead. What the ****.
Dominique is actually in the process of riding back here from Montreal with her boyfriend as well, so its obviously an especially terrible time to get news like that. She still has to ride for a couple more days (I assume) and obviously it's going to be hard to put that out of her mind. She's not alone at least.
She didn't have too many details because it only happened in the last day or so (she wasn't sure when), but she asked me to pass it along to everyone else. She mentioned a name.. "Shaneil" maybe? I didn't recognize it, but I assume a friend or family-member. Apparently there's going to be a memorial service on Monday.

Also, the last comment on the blog said to contact the poster for news regarding Charlie. I just sent them a quick email. I will pass along any info I receive.

The more this sinks in the more it makes me angry. The guy takes on all comers in Toronto...rides across 2 countries and then some ***** hat drunk takes him out. What an absolute tragic waste. When will people learn to not drive when they have been drinking? ****!

holy ****. this is ****ed. i probably only ever talked to charlie once or twice, but he was a great guy... was really in awe of his entire trip and how dedicated he was. rest in peace.
Perhaps someone should mention this in the main forum and put a link to his blog? It is a tragic thing to have happened but maybe his family can gain some sort of solace if people from BF made some commentary on his blog? I can only imagine what they are going through.
I don't know what else to say except to repeat "unbelievable".....

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this and deal with work at the same time. If anyone gets info on the service please post it.
