Thanks for the ride last night, dudes and dudettes, I had a great time!

Most of my shots didn't turn out all that great but I've posted up a few pics from the ride here:

Hey Matt... great set of picts on your blog... wish I hadn't missed the fun. Your blog post about hitting up the Leslie Street Spit has me wanting to take a roll out there... I totally forgot about that place. Thanks for the reminder!

Nice day to ride the Don, did my 75km in just under 2:40. Was great to be considered a VIP as I got a nice lunch after, salmon, chicken roast beef, and some pasta. Protein and carbs, yummy.

Best part was the roadie who had his crank fall of his $4000 bike 0:30 seconds in. I also observed that although I was getting smoked on the decents, on the flats and all the climbs I passed 90% of the riders. Seems the full kit/gear riders like to gear way down on the climbs. Weenies.

Missed you out there, but did see 4-5 riders on fixed bikes. We are truely gods among mortals.

but were you riding fixed and smoking at the same time? now that would have been hilarious as you passed the roadies...

fun ride. it was entertaining when roadies smugly sail past me on descents, only to see the horrified looks on their faces when i smoke them on the climbs.

there was a guy on a kelly green track bike who got off and WALKED up a hill. for shame, dude.

lol, poor dude! While I've never done that myself I have seen the agony of folks that chose the wrong gearing for themselves or their terrain, seen guys come to a dead stop after they've lost all the momentum , then onto their feet for the walk of shame

Yeah, that always happens. Got passed by pretty much everybody on the downhills, but passed almost everybody on the climbs and I suck at climbing. Also had a couple wobbly roadies in front of me at the hairpin after we exited at Jameson at the end of the ride. They unclipped and took the hairpin wide and slow, so I took it tight and passed them on the inside.

By far, this was the coolest bike setup I saw today.

BTW, anyone see that woman down on the DVP South? When I passed, the cops and medics were there and she was covered up w/ a piece of plastic and her ride partner was cradling her head. Hope she's ok.

To be fair, if that's the same guy I saw walking up to York Mills, I asked if he was ok.. he said he had a mechanical (flat, I think) and was walking up + hopping on the subway. He passed me on the way back south (I was riding with the wife at a slower pace for the ride), so I guess someone helped him fix it.

Next year - gonna do it fixed!

This guy? Not a $4000 dollar bike, but pretty sad nonetheless...

Saw 2 incidents with ambulances. Ride for heart = ride and watch the F out. Had some moron kid swerve into me right at the very end just when I thought I got away without an accident.

2.5m wide lane with speeds < 3kph, barriers on one side, curb on the other = disaster waiting to happen when occupied by nubs who can't ride a straight line.

P.S I loved the little kids on bikes

Alright so I'm going to be stripping my Jamie Roy soon, because I hate decals. I'm taking it down to baremetal, pinstriping with (hopefully) glow-in-the-dark pain and then clearcoating it.

The question is could I smooth out the welds at the joints? I've asked a few metal working persons and they all say the same thing "It should be fine, but I wouldn't do it without the manufacturer sayings its ok" So i'm going to call Tony on monday and ask. But if there are opinions for you guys I'd love to hear them too.

Oh and what size cone wrenches do I need to repack a campag record hub from the early-mid 90s

Thanks dude! Yeah, Tommy Thompson rules - the roads are a little rough right now but they're working on it - soon that'll be a great spot!

i don't often get the chance to do the humber past kipling. nice to be away from traffic; and everything is so lush and green. my back was really slowing me down the last 15kms or so.

speaking of which, did you get my email about tomorrow mike/shapelike?

oh and since i didn't get to say 'bye, have a nice night, wes!

Last I heard the IRO frames are all powder coated and then clear coated. You may have a heck of a time getting the powder coat off (maybe...). I think Ryan and Keith were talking about it a few weeks ago and Ryan decided not to take the repainting plunge...

Yeah I rode it this afternoon.. it's a wild place. Kinda wished I had my MTB with me instead of the fixie. Looked like there was a bunch of single track hidden just off to the side of the main road. Surprisingly there were a lot of people out there on bikes and hiking.

I can't help but think there are a lot of hidden spots throughout the city... would be worth it to try and find a few more of the hidden gems for the next time we all roll around as a big group.

Buh-bye! I got in the zone in that last section and totally blew past the overpass and didn't realize until I was well past it. Whoops! I hope that wasn't too rude.

We'll have to do another ride soon, that was fun.

That was him, I mean I feel for the guy, but check your gear before the ride.

I thought about it on a climb no hands, but my matches were in the back pocket of my shorts and well, lets leave it at that.

I thought I posted this already but I guess I must have just "previewed" it instead.

There was a dude riding fixed pulling a Chariot with a kid in it - it was pretty rad.

I've also posted a few pics from the ride, but nothing all that spectacular / particularly relevant to anyone outside my circle of friends. https://www.makergo.com
