404's = awesome! Tubular's + City Streets = The ride quality will be fabulous but the possibility of a puncture would negate any positive's. You have some great friend's.

That sucks. Are tubulars more likely to get punctures? For some reason I never seem to get flats (of course, now that I've said that...)

Depends on the tire. I would assume that there are some nice tires mounted on those wheels. 1 piece of glass can ruin a perfectly good tubular. If you do get a puncture, tub's are a pain in the a$$ to repair....not just the tire repair itself but the whole re-gluing of the tire to rim. Good tub's are $$$$$. If you are going to ride them I would suggest #1. Only use them on long distance rides or events where you want to be competitive/ have a good result. #2. Get yerself a spare tire..stretch it on an old tub rim and pre-glue it. If you do get a puncture at least you wont be stranded.

That all makes sense. Now I just need to find an event to make the risk be worthwhile.

Hey Matt... after taking a peek at yer blog I think we may have some old friends in common. I'm pretty sure I remember you from way back in the glory days of the Toronto punk/hardcore scene (94-2002-ish?). I hung out with the Trigger Happy/Blankstare/Bad Blood guys a lot back then. Were you at the Lifetime show a month or so back?

my friend called me this afternoon to ask for my help in changing a set of tires (he had no pump, levers, or know-how) on his 35-lb canadian tire behemoth. after one explosive tube and 30 minutes later, i notice something weird about his brake levers. they're on top of his grips, not in front. i ask him how he brakes, and he says, very awkwardly. i take a look at his front v-brake... it's behind the fork. his right lever controls the front brake, and the left lever the back.

"that's odd," i tell him. "does it feel twitchy when you turn?"
(he nods his head)
"is it really hard to make smooth u-turns?"
"uh-huh"
"marc... those potheads at canadian tire put your fork and your brake levers on backwards."

20 minutes later and 1 test ride later, he's making circles in the park across the street from his house, and saying, "it's like i can ride a bike again!"

Quick question.....
Yogne street near Lakeshore..where the underpass is for the GO trains....
8-10 inch wide cement barrier keeps peds safe from cars. 3-3.5 foot gap in this barrier about mid-way on both sides. The barrier is about 3-3.5 feet high and ramps up from the sidewalk level.

My question.... does anyone know of anyone riding this and making the gap? It's been calling to me like the Lady in The Lake.

That is funny, I also have a story about a Canadian Tire bike. For the Becel Ride, a woman on the team asked me to help her out with the bike she was riding. She is in my neighbourhood so I dropped by and she pulls out some old Supercycle that is in really rough shape. The thing had to be about 15 years old and clearly hadn't been serviced since it was purchased. I played around with it for a bit but the chain was rusty and the brakes were garbage and I asked her if she had any other bike that she could use, even just borrow from a friend for a day. She thinks for a sec and says "Oh, my son left a bike in the garage when he moved out, what about that?". I am thinking it is probably another Supercycle POS but it couldn't be worse so I say "Sure, let's see it." and she goes into the garage and pulls out a Cannondale! Full 105 from the early '90s, light as a feather and it even fit her! These office types are odd.

On the north side of Harbord there is a bike store, near Christie I think, that sells used bikes. Anyone know the name?

So I take it there have been no broken noses, black eyes, folded wheels, T-Bones, or general push down type of action in this seemingly most smooth and civil incarnation of Polo? Man ppl get busted up in waterpolo, what kinda game you kids running here?

It sounds like the bike joint to me too. I've been working there for the past week or so and there aren't currently any bikes for sale. That question does get asked at least 10 times/day though.
