Can you guys use pics from his blog entries? - link here I know there are a couple of Charlie (albeit eating, etc.). My respect and thoughts for tomorrows service.
I'd like to make the ride Friday if I can (esp. as I couldn't do Sunday afterall), what's the sketch?

Hopefully for the better William. We can always hope.
I'll see you all around 1:30. I'm with Keith, can't decide b/w formal or casual. I will have a cycling cap though for Charlie. Seems whenever I saw him he always had one on.

If any of you are wondering, there's O-ring bike parking on the west side of the church. I recon'ed the area this morning. Either that or lock up to the metal fence around the church. Or don't bike, in which case you suck.

It's the only good thing I can take from this. It's sad that we wait until a death to realize the value of eachother, and sad that we wait until a death to start a change. But, in the least, now he's a symbol and a motivator.
I am sad for the fact I never met him, and he was in my town for a while.

Thanks for the info on the Catlike Helmets.
I'm posting info for Friday's ride on the FGG Forum as I know several guys that post there that don't post here so I'm wondering if I can get some details? Time, place?

I've been away from BF for a bit (away for work, broken laptop) but was floored to hear the news about Charlie. I read the post in the main forum a few days ago, but haven't really written anything since I was really at a loss for words.
I only joined the Toronto Fixed thread a bit before Charlie went out west on his epic ride, so I never got to ride with him, but I can clearly see how loved he was by everyone here. I followed Charlie's blog every day with respect and awe for his accomplishments. My thoughts and sympathies go out to all of his loved ones, friends and family. I won't be able to attend the funeral today, but hope to pay my respects by joining his memorial ride on Friday.
EDIT: Can anyone comment on the pace of the memorial ride? My wife is not a strong cyclist, but was interested in attending as well.

I have been reflecting on Charlie's death over the past few days, and would like to make a personal pledge in his honour. Over the past month and a half, I've been forced to commute to my summer job by car, and have been irresponsible in talking on a cell phone while driving (not to mention hypocritical, as I have chastised enough of my friends and family members for doing just this). I'm not looking for any kind of absolution by posting this, but wanted to declare it publically so that I can have a personal reminder of my promise to no longer use my phone while driving.
Charlie's loss has been a humbling reminder of how powerful a weapon a car can be -- whether a driver is drunk, reckless, or just distracted, the end results can be the same. I wish that more people would remember this when they were behind the wheel -- a car is a 3000 pound weapon and should be treated with the same fear and respect as a firearm.

Martino just posted up the ride flyer on Bike Lane Diary (https://bikelanediary.blogspot.com/) as well as iBikeTO (www.ibiketo.ca).
Also, Herb posted on iBikeTO about maybe putting a ghost bike up near Brooks as he has relatives there and will be visiting soon.

Thanks Wes - I finish work at 6 but I figure I should be able to a) duck out a couple of minutes early or b) blast up there with lightning speed!

Thanks Wes, I didn't check the previously posted links. I'm going to paper the bikes here at Sunnybrook.

The Bicycle Thieves Jackman Hall, Art Gallery of Ontario, 317 Dundas St. W. Toronto. (416-968-FILM; www.cinemathequeontario.ca) 9 p.m. An unemployed man needs a bicycle to get a job. His wife pawns their sheets to buy one, but it is immediately stolen. The man's desperate search through Rome for the precious bike becomes an odyssey in which he meets the best and worst of humanity, struggling to survive amidst the city's postwar confusion. Dir. Vittorio De Sica. Italy 1948. In Italian with English subtitles.
