Blue mec jacket in Toronto eh? haha
Reminds me of a joke from high school:
*At lolapalooza* I'm looking for my friend, have you seen him? He's wearing a flannel jacket and chucks.

OR, at the shop: I'm here to pick up my bike. It's the rusty supercycle.

not all that much worse than a million other rides this winter - i think i'm just totally done with it! bring on spring!!!

i dont know,

last nights jean drenching rain, combined with wind gusts that virtually stopped you dead, and rain/snow/hail hitting like tiny needles....

i'd rather ride in snow.

Flimflam 03-26-08 06:57 AM

Last night I went East to see my buddy Dave, after 10 minute riding north on Spadina I quickly discovered how wet it really was out there (thanks to no fenders). Luckily I was able to dry my **** at his house, I was *soaked* by the time I got across the Danforth. Was a nice ride thanks to the wind, just wet and a touch cold on my feet with all the water. I rode back around 10:30/11 and the wind had died down a lot and most of the surface water had drained, so it was quite a pleasant ride back home too.

Looks to be nice today/this afternoon. I hope to be around for the DSR ride tonight, if happening.

Haha, yeah. This is the exact scenario that led me to take out the buds altogether. People kept saying they saw me and called to me on the street but I would NEVER hear them... I always figured that I could hear the cars coming up behind me so that was good enough but these days I choose to just leave 'em out completely... To each their own, though.

Herbie_Glick 03-26-08 10:19 AM

I just had an amazing meeting at the shop. Antonio Columbo (Founder of Columbus tubing and owner of Cinelli) came by to see the shop. All I can say is what an amazing dude. I got some good pics and he signed some Cinellis for us.

On another note, looks like ride is on for tonight! Gonna be a good one, bring lights if you have them as per the craigslist complaint! haha

I know there's some people in the know here on this one. I just got an unsolicited email from someone wanting to buy a domain name that I own. Any guide on how many bikes this will get me?

shapelike 03-26-08 10:49 AM

When I sold crywolf.ca last year to a company from the states I said $3000, they said $1500, I said $2500, sold.

Their business is called Cry Wolf and they were moving into the Canadian market so this was pretty appealing to them and frankly, worthless to me (I was just using it for a half-assed photo blog). Got more information on the domain/who wants it?

PS. When they initially contacted me they didn't say who they were. I did my research and found that out and obviously that the company must want the exact name I had. That's why I didn't move too much in negotiations.

Thought I'd give an update on my wheel building situation. Managed to get a rear wheel off someone who just happened to be building new wheels at phat moose (LBS). Ended up scoring a steelwool hub laced to a velocity aero rim, a matching front hub, mavic opensport rim and butted spokes for 180 all said and done.

Can't wait to start working on the front wheel tonight! Who says the LBS is always more expensive than Online :-)

Thanks Mike, that helps a bit. I suspect this is a not-for-profit organization given the name on the email I got. Although if it's more along the lines of Montressori, they'll be coughing up a bit more. That'll teach 'em for blocking the road with their SUV's as they drop their progeny off.

Depends on just how bad they want the domain. Research the company, if dey big... you scored if it's for some product of theirs. Don't be too too eager, this could be a nice pay day.

As the other guys have said, it can be a big payout. Beer.com sold for millions a few years ago as did Cars.com but then Parisexposed.com sold for less than $1000 last year, it is entirely dependant on the client.

I would have guessed that Parisexposed.com would have gone for more considering it is a porn site, but perhaps the client didn't tell the owner of the domain what they intended to do with it.

somnambulant 03-26-08 12:35 PM

Paris exposed? barf!

An Open Letter to Mother Nature:

"Dear *****,

Are you for real?

We know it was wrong of us to stand idly by and let Al Gore show all those explicit photographs of what you’re going to look like 30 years from now. But seriously – ease off. You’re all powerful and you’re in a really pissy mood. We get it already. But enough with the apocalyptic downfalls of snow mixed with ice pellets mixed with freezing rain mixed with snow pellets mixed with the frozen tears of sedentary Maclean’s columnists who just can’t lift the shovel even one more goddamn time.

What’s eating you? Is it us? Listen, we all still have regrets about those 1970s commercials for Chiffon margarine – the ones with the catchphrase, “It’s not nice to fool Mother Nature.” The special effects were cheesy at best and some of those woodland animals really phoned in their performances. (You call that emoting, raccoon?) And yes, we bear a collective responsibility for failing to punish Hollywood for callously having you portrayed in films by not only Phyllis Diller but also Bette Midler. Next time, Scarlett Johansson in a fig leaf. We promise.

But you need to lighten up. You are quickly becoming our least favourite anthropomorphized figure since Squealer from Animal Farm and Jack Black. We know it’s not nice to fool you – but there’s nothing in there that says we can’t totally punch you in the face.

Sincerely,
Everyone"

Many years ago now I was doing some work for a Caribbean Telecom startup and they had their eyes on Caribtel.com - some guy had owned it for a couple of years but never had a site up so I got in touch with him to see what he wanted for it. He sounded suuuuuuper excited that anyone was even interested in it and said he'd call me back with a price.

$50,000, he says. I told him right away that my clients wouldn't be interested in the slightest so he asked what they had in mind? I said "I don't know, maybe $1,000? Give or take?" to which he replies "well maybe we can meet in the middle?" I just started laughing - dude, where the **** is the middle between those two figures that anyone is going to be happy with? $25,000 is $24,000 more than they've got and $25,000 less than you want... Some people's children, eh?

somnambulant 03-26-08 01:15 PM

Similar story: When my old band was releasing our first studio album we still didn't have a proper website set up. So I threw something together, but our guitarist (also an internerd) was supposed to register the domain. When he tried to register it, someone else had gotten it ONE DAY EARLIER. Of course, little did we know that he procrastinated until AFTER we had everything pressed/printed/shrinkwrapped/etc and the booklet had the domain in it. D'oh!

We contacted the owners, but it was some startup and they weren't willing to let go of it without at least a few thousand bucks, which wasn't worth it to us. We wound up just using a different address and hoping people would just use web-search and find us (nerdy aside: Google hadn't taken over yet :P).

Best part? The start-up never ever launched. The domain was up for grabs again a couple years later (but we had gone our separate ways by then).
