I was riding home from the shop the other night and saw a fox walking down the sidewalk on Queen Street. It was pretty odd.

I was riding the other day and almost hit a family of these crossing the road.

I thought they were pretty cute, but apparently they've been known to attack humans, who'd of thunk it?

nerdsgirth 04-26-08 08:46 PM

Mitch buddy! how are you? Got any good stories to share? ^^^

Hey man, I'm doing pretty well, just been riding a lot and hanging in the sun in Arizona, heading out to the west coast next week and driving up to BC should be some good stories to come!

Prolly be back in the big smoke in early June.

It's amazing how many Japanese tourists want to take pictures with me while I'm riding. :)

sr20det 04-26-08 10:54 PM

Took the surly for its first real ride today.
Waterloo - Toronto.

A few lessons learned.
1) White bartape and saddles don't stay that way after a ride or two.
2) Guelph is awful to navigate. p
3) 15th side road is the best road I've ever been on in my life. tons of fun terrain.

I'm in the city for the summer so hopefully I can make it out for some rides.

On the way back from the Leslie St. spit, my girlfriend and I saw some guys on Queen E. who looked like they were having mechanical trouble. I don't have too many serious wrenching skills, but I had my flat kit so we stopped to see if it was a flat - and it was. One guy had a nice black Rossin with what looked like track drops and the guy with the flat had a red KHS, I think they were both fixed. I gave him a tube in case the patch they tried didn't hold up, TTC strike and all.

Was it any of you?

Also -- I gave him a 28-32 tube for what looked like a 25 rear tire. Will that even work? Might I have been useless? I did tell him...

Flimflam 04-27-08 12:18 AM

28/32 tube will be fine in a 25 so long as it's not super inflated, it'll be just fine to get the guy home - good on you for your samaritan efforts! Wasn't me, I know a couple of people with a black Rossin...

Yo buddy, thank you so much!

That was my friend Scott and I. He got a pinch flat going across Church along queen on that dope pothole section.

He had a spare tube, but the valve half ripped off when he was pumping it, so we tried to patch the pinch flat hole which was enormous and we only had small patches.. so we tried to do it using several.

That failed and I decided to try and reattach the valve to the other tube, and after sculpting the patch around the valve that's when you showed up.

My valve patchwork held, and is still holding as far as I know as of 20 minutes ago.

Again thanks so much, he still has the spare you gave him, come by the shop and I'll reimburse you, don't argue 'bout thatttt ;)

Operator .. hope you didn't go outside. Sounds like it was trying to lure you out.

I'm not addicted either. Which is why I sold the Raleigh and bought a Vision R65 recumbent .... maybe I do have a problem.

lol, awesome!! Ive always wanted to try one of those/they look like AMAZING touring bikes. Can you imagine pedalling reclined in a chair all day? Its the perfect way to combine laziness and productive cycling!

-the current project is off, I just got back from a 26k round trip to see the folder but I hated it. You could feel it flexing under load as you rode it and jiggling over bumps. It was pretty and had cleaned up nicely, just a *****TY frame. -

Seems like your ninja patchwork is what really saved the night! I'm glad I could help out, though. Don't worry about the tube -- I've got plenty, which is good 'cause we're riding to the beaches in a moment and I don't want to be stranded by a flat out there, either, even with TTC back.

I hear they are fantastic until you try to go up a hill.

iherald 04-27-08 03:26 PM

I think my roommate might have found one, but does anyone know a good landscaper who would do the planting and stuff and every few weeks come by the house and keep things looking sharp?

Until you get bedsores

Sorry, this isn't my track bike, but I just finished rebuilding it and wanted to post a couple of pics. The bike is a Record-equipped Corima Puma, long out of production. Flawless custom paint was done a couple of weeks ago by Noah at Velocolour. I know it's somewhat cross-chained in the photos, as I had just been running it up and down to adjust the derailleur.

I have commuted on it, in its previous incarnation, but at last count, I have almost $10k in it, so it never gets left anywhere. In the summer, when I go up to the Ottawa Valley to visit family, I take this one with me, and always stop to ride the Thousand Islands Pkwy. before continuing back to Toronto.

iherald 04-27-08 05:17 PM

That's a nice looking bike. In my humble opinion, the only thing that looks a little strange is the seat post. I, and I have been accused of having good taste, just find how thing it gets at the bottom a little jarring with the sweeping lines of the rest of the bike.

Nevertheless, damn nice!

It is a little squirrely to get used to with the lower centre of gravity, but it's kind of fun so far. I need to take this bugger our where no one can see me until I get used to it though. Then, as shapelike pointed out, I need to get a red reflector flag, grow my beard back, and maybe start working on a pot belly and a condescending attitude to diamond frame riders and I'll be all set. Maybe a pair of saggy butt tights while I'm at it.

Seriously, I bought it more for light touring than anything else. It's kind of nice to be able to gawk around at the territory when you're riding through. At $575 with an Ultegra grouppo, I really couldn't pass it up.
