Against all logic, I decided to bike to work today. My right leg was like dead weight while clipped in, so I was basically spinning with one leg. Naproxen is a wonderful drug :)

Also: shapelike, I'll bring the Cannondale to CT, but I have to get a hold of the vehicle claims department for authorization first.

Edit: just spoke with the insurance; they want a copy of the accident report, an estimate, and the bike's receipt. Looks like I'll be taking the C'dale over to CT this week.

Advice: Take it easy, fella. You could turn 2wks of annoying healing into 6 weeks of annoying healing if you don't give it a chance to heal properly so soon after. Listen to your body!

The entire area between them and the fence on the highway is stacked iwth thousands of bikes.

i've been planning on stopping by for a little look see for the past couple years, but i have never had time to stop.

Are they abandon bikes or something...? Are they usable bikes I could bring home and fix up?

No clue.

Its a city owned propery, so i'm assuming they're bikes that have been reclaimed by the city.
Its also fenced in, so dont think you'll be able to show up and grab a bike.

Don't kid yourself that the best bikes don't go to the guys that cut them off and their buddies.

Update on the computrainer ride. Checking the forecast - calls for rain Friday through Sunday. Bummer for the outside ride but great for the indoor one. Absoulte Endurance 115 Merton Street. For those still wanting the challenge, if you're driving parking is on the east side of the building or else on Merton Street. Be there early enough to setup and start riding by 12 noon. Hee-Haw!

Ugh :(

Rode in today, screwed myself for the "get the earlier train in the east end" option by leaving too late for that, so I rode all the way over here. Started feeling drops and it slowly got heavier so I put on the goretex jacket and carried on - my only regrets were not bringing my waterproof gloves, and not bringing booties/bags for my shoes. My calves had got cold, they really tightened up, but I think that having two blocks of ice for feet probably helped that more than the wind/rain. All in all not a bad ride, but not something I'd want to repeat without the aforementioned apparel - I started to sag pretty heavily once I got past Westney Rd. in Ajax (at which point I know I'm "almost there" - stupid mind games! :p)

speaking of cutting off bikes, and ethics....

I had a tenant move out april 1, and left their bike on the porch attached to the railing.
the new tenants have expressed intrest in using the porch for hanging out.

is 9 days too soon to cut it off?

Personally I'd wait 30 days. But I'm not sure the 'right' answer.

freecycle 04-09-08 09:29 AM

cut it off and put it in storage, leave a note suggesting the tenant has 30 days to pick it up.

sucks to store i know, but thatll let them chill there and solve your ethics issue

edit: by leave a note im being kinda general, how about, "find a way to let them know it wasnt jacked" if they come looking for it.

Well then, all the more reason to get there on Saturday and ride with us, or at least check it out.

somnambulant 04-09-08 11:51 AM

totally off-topic: if anyone has an original xbox they aren't using and/or want to get ride of, PM me. Preferably already hard-modded, but I'm open to unadulterated ones too. :)

every spring the city does a blitz of the post and rings to get rid of "abandoned" bikes.

i've seen them put tags on them first, to warn the owner that the rings are for "temporary parking only" and then if it's still there whenever they return, they remove it.

i hate when you're trying to find a free post and there's just busted frames taking up space, so it's good in a way that they do it. however, whether or not every frame goes through the proper protocol, and where it ends up is questionable.

Sometimes not having to work until 1:30 is a dry street bonus.

i hear dat, beat the rain in today, will be nice and toasty warm and dry for the ride home

exhibitx 04-09-08 12:51 PM

i suppose i can live with the 50k/h wind gusts when it's 18 degrees and sunny

TRaffic Jammer 04-09-08 01:18 PM

especially at my back on the way home ... oh yes
Though it won't be THAT warm, oh and it'll be dark.

Flimflam 04-09-08 01:40 PM

Yeah I had a theoretical tailwind heading east today, didn't last past Scarberia - but whatever effect it had, was welcome. Possible 50km/h headwind going home... again? Might well take the train back, especially if my shoes are still wet.

The Weather Network is reporting 100% POP for the weekend, that just about pisses on the chips. Ho hum. Maybe I'll get the Rob Roy running avec les fenders.

Pissing on the chips? I thought that was Pyze-Guy's job..?

"The Sounds of Spring".. good article.. http://www.velonews.com/article/7439...unds-of-spring

A quote from the article for Kergin:
"A joint gets smashed in a crash, you push through it, all of a sudden tendinitis appears and, well, good luck with that. One more time when the smart and lucky come out ahead. If you make it through the whole spring without one of these, mark a notch in that success column. If you are smart enough to not push through something and let it develop further, a half notch. If you push it and then end up in recovery mode for a few weeks, take away a score of notches, and perhaps a lesson learned."

:)

Ha ha. I was drunk and in Scotland and they potatoes, not chips.. Not that the cops seemed to care.

kylehutton 04-09-08 03:17 PM

you'd think it was summer out there

i had a guy clip my pedals as he tried to run me into the curb at dundas/mcaul
so i yell at him and hit his fender.
he slams on the brake so i'm beside his passenger windows and rolls them down
"where did you come from? why would you hit my car like that?"
tells his dobermann in the back seat to "get" me.
and then gets out of the car and tries to come after me
i ride away and the street car blocked him so he couldnt drive after me.

had to duck up huron on the one way to get away from him.

****ing nutter.

between this and my cop run in last week, i'm off of dundas on the ride home for a while.

somnambulant 04-09-08 04:12 PM

Ugh.. sounds like my type of run in. I almost always take the zen approach, but it seems like every time I yell at someone they're a total psychopath and want to kill and/or maim me.

cavit8 04-09-08 04:20 PM

I sort of wonder if you could do the wounded bird thing. Slowly try to escape so the nutter keeps after you, getting further and further from his car. Until someone jumps in it and steals it. Probably wouldn't work with a Dobie in the back seat mind you. I wish there was some way you could safely put skunk musk in a balloon or something, though.

TRaffic Jammer 04-09-08 04:26 PM

Man, that guy does sound nuts. It sounds like it seems there would be no 'good' answer for him. Where did you come from?... did you come up from behind him while he was sittin' in traffic? What a ****** though. Getting out of the car for a fender slap, relax bia-ch. Dundas bites it whole heartedly.

kylehutton 04-09-08 04:31 PM

i was sitting at the light behind one of those new toyota land cruisers at the light at mcaul
taking the lane while trackstanding. this ******bag was behind a couple bikes that were behind me.

the light changes and i move closer to the curb and start to ride down the street
and he comes from behind and tries to do the squeeze between me and the streetcar.

thats why the "where did you come from?" really threw me off.

i didnt say anything other than say "this guy is nuts" to the biker that was behind me.
and nod at the street car driver as i tried to get away.

TRaffic Jammer 04-09-08 04:40 PM

Thought so .... come from behind. Did he sound all innocent and shocked.."Oh my gee wilikers where did you come from? In FRONT of you D.I.C.K. head, drive much with your eyes closed? Man where are der police when you need 'em? Sounds like you got the best of the situation, from the story he's one of those impossibles, damned if you do have a shout with him, and damned if you don't as he'll run you right off the road.

I still think an electromagnetic glove on hood to cut the engine would be fun to have, fry all the circuits in the engine while he sits in traffic. *sigh* one day.
