Hey Pyze, not sure if I can make it to Manic tonight. Can I call you closer to 5?

I'll be around.

I can't say a single bad thing about quando quality, to be honest. I've been riding the hell outta this bike for 3 years in all weather, year round and I've only had the hub serviced once (which was just routine maintenance, not any real issue per se). And yeah, they're cartridge bearings.

So i was going downtown today to get some gloves from MEC, but i broke my rear wheel somehow. I was at a light, and when it turned green i started to pedal and then it happened. I couldn't see what exactly went wrong, but i am guessing something with the spokes since the wheel was wobbling. Anyway this is an old bike i don't want to waste time keeping it alive (and it was a hybrid), so my question is do you know of any good stores in Toronto where i can get fixed/single speed frames/components or complete bikes for $500 and under?

I`m going to have a nap.

pyze-guy 05-13-08 12:59 PM

That was a good nap.

So far meeting Cam, Flim and Tuz tonight. TJ, coming for coffee and hubs?

somnambulant 05-13-08 01:04 PM

Also, again: DSR.dirt ride tonight. 6:30 at the Pottery Rd Trailhead.

iherald 05-13-08 01:46 PM

I'm thinking about trying the Don's trails on the weekend. I've never done them before, are they relatively easy to navigate?

somnambulant 05-13-08 02:05 PM

In the most basic sense, yes. As in, it's easy to find some trails and ride. But there is an amazing amount/diversity of riding in there (over 100km of trails according to Ted), so having a 'tour guide' isn't a bad idea. My first intro is usually just the 'flats', which is the trail that runs mostly alongside the Don river from just North of Pottery Road up to around Thorncliffe Park.

You're totally free to come in with us on the DSR ride obviously, or I can take you in for an intro tour on the weekend.

iherald 05-13-08 02:13 PM

the DSR rides are hard because of work. I may take you up on the intro tour this weekend. I'm thinking a morning, is there one that works best for you?

At this point I don't really have any preference, but it's more a matter of what my cronies and the weather forecast say. :)

canice 05-13-08 02:34 PM

hey keith (or anyone who could answer for him), are you still in the business of wheelbuilding? if so, where can i find you to retain your services?

(i'm getting a marinoni!!! thank you, well-paying new job. also, hi everyone.)

shapelike 05-13-08 03:02 PM

Keith can be found at the Cycle Solutions on Parliament now - http://maps.google.ca/maps?ie=UTF8&o...9&z=15&iwloc=B

shapelike 05-13-08 03:05 PM

Anyone have a mountain bike in decent condition that'd fit someone 5'7" (and that you'd be willing to lend out for a morning/afternoon)? I'd like to take the missus out for an intro to dirt ride.

shapelike 05-13-08 03:06 PM

Seeing as it's 5:06 and I'm already in my riding gitch I guess I'm going to head to the Don a bit early and futz around. See you all there.

Edit: DANPOSITIVE! WOO!!! :bday:

iherald 05-13-08 03:09 PM

Dan, I hear at Baskin Robbins they give you a free ice cream cone on your birthday. Do you get a free bike at Cervelo? :D

shapelike 05-13-08 03:17 PM

Wait, it's not Dan's birthday ... I just really like that emoticon. :)

Do you still want those shifters?

iherald 05-13-08 03:47 PM

I'm not sure. If someone else wants them, sell them. I thought I was picking up a nice mtb frame, but the guy hasn't gotten back to me in a few weeks. I emailed him today again about it.

~Stuart~ 05-13-08 04:02 PM

bah pedal chewed up finger (chain ring through middle finger), and im all outta bandaids... i'll see what i can do but looks like im not going to make it (no gloves, no bandaid, big flapper, and the don dirt might not be the most sanitary way to deal with it)

mine hasn't been ridden in a while... i'm not sure how well the gears are working at the moment but otherwise it really ought to be used more.

jeremywhitehorn 05-13-08 05:32 PM

by the way guys (and girls) - as you may know, i'm in the process of packing/moving and i'm trying to clear out some cycling stuff. i went through my closet today for the usual spring cleaning and goodwill donation gathering and i realized i have a pile of jerseys and caps that i'm never going to use. i'd rather they get used for their intended purpose so if anyone wants to take a jersey or two off my hands for nada please let me know. most will fit a tall skinny guy (mediums/larges) and are short sleeved. for instance i have an protour lotto-adecco jersey, some castellis, nalinis and at least one pair of brand new dickes double knee pants (good for rolling up or cutting off for knickers). shout if you're interested.
