on another note: oatmeal date squares i think may be the best dessert ever invented.

Had a really fun ride in the Don with the ever growing DSR Dirt crew. We seem to have lost Cam early and I hope he's ok...

cavit8 05-13-08 07:16 PM

Yep, I think I took the wrong track and after looking around for you guys for a while my rear brake hanger failed. No harm done, but I headed out right after as riding a front brake only didn't seem to be the best idea ever.

Hello Thin Blue Line.....will someone please ride this loaner I have so I can justify keeping it in my hallway.

I'm not sure. If someone else wants them, sell them. I thought I was picking up a nice mtb frame, but the guy hasn't gotten back to me in a few weeks. I emailed him today again about it.

I am getting rid of my full sus Kona for cheap. P.M. if you would like to take it out for a ride.

Sweet! Also, other than Bowler Mountain, do you know any currently decent singletrack around the Sarnia/London/Southwesty Ontario area? I'm heading home in the next couple of weekends and wouldn't mind doing a bit of riding while I'm there.

I will consult my "Rider Mel Ontario Mountain Bike Directory" and get back to ya. I know there is some sweet riding out that way.

jer, I'd love to take a couple off your hands - when/where can I be? I'm out of town Thursday for the weekend, but I'm in the Parkdale 'hood tomorrow night/Thurs morning. Thanks!

Thanks Pyze, I finally made it :)

Seemed like an epic journey home, partially (ok, mostly) idiot error missing the train twice and getting the flat at Kingston Rd/Military Trail didn't help - barring the 6 miles I did take the train for (Guildwood->Danforth), it worked out for a nice bit of unplanned riding.

Bonus learning experience of the day: I can change a rear flat without needing to touch my fenders (so ducking glad about that :D)

I'm interested. I'll also grab those wheels if you still have them. Are you home in the am? I have the car tomorrow and can swing by and grab some stuff.

shapelike 05-14-08 05:34 AM

Today I woke up to an aching and practically seized left wrist. Time to re-evaluate my bar grips/setup on the Jamis, apparently. In the meantime, R.I.C.E. treatment, here I come.

PS. Rest/Ice/Compression/Elevation ...

iherald 05-14-08 06:26 AM

Jeremy: Anything left over after Flim and Pyze get through your stuff I'd be interested. Can't go wrong with more jerseys.

If you have any left, I'd love a jersey, cap, or whatever you can spare--I've been meaning to pick my first jersey up somewhere, but they're all so expensive...

Where/when can I meet you?

thanks:)

Holy crap, man. Is it just a case of leaning forward with a high saddle?

Ugh, that sucks. Do you remember thwacking it or anything during the ride? Are your brake levers angled properly? You don't have an aggressive saddle-to-bar drop or anything (they're pretty well level IIRC), so I'm kind of surprised.

shapelike 05-14-08 07:13 AM

Ya, it's always been an issue. I can't remember ever doing a ride on a mountain bike where I didn't feel something in my wrists afterward. It seems to be mostly an issue of back-sweep (my wrists just don't like to take hits when they're angled in at all). I'll adjust the bars so that the sweep is effectively maximized, but if that doesn't solve things I'll probably just switch to some bars with an 11 degree sweep or so (current bar is apparently 8 an degree).

zippered 05-14-08 07:19 AM

mike:

1. when i had trouble with my wrist last year i realised it stemmed from muscles in my forearm/i-forget-the-name-of-the-muscle-on-the-upper-arm-behind-the-elbow. after the immediate "rice" care some accupuncture/massage/stretching of those areas really helped my wrist.

2. apparently it's been so long since i rode my mtb it has started being parted out! no cassette = no riding! but it looks like keith saves the day. maybe if there's a potential riding partner in the works it'll be an incentive me to get out there.

somnambulant 05-14-08 07:20 AM

Ah. Yeah, that actually bothers me a little too. Not enough sweep coupled with a wide bar == awkward bend at wrist. I've been tempted to try out the Misfit FU Bar or the On-One Mary bar for that reason.

shapelike 05-14-08 07:23 AM

+various Salsa bars ...

I really like the FU bar, too bad I cut it too short. I agree on the need for sweep in the bar, my arms and wrists are less sore this year with the new bars.

Herbie_Glick 05-14-08 08:20 AM

Hey Pyze, you coming out tonight to sprints barring rain?

And Wes, why can I imagine you sounding out "thwacking" while typing it...thwacking...thwacking...thwacking

Stop imagining me thwacking it.

(and I didn't sound it out :))

TRaffic Jammer 05-14-08 08:28 AM

Boys are ALL about the sound effects. :)

shapelike 05-14-08 08:49 AM

Hahaha, they're selling IROs and Pakes at Lance's new bike shop.

TRaffic Jammer 05-14-08 08:50 AM

I wonder what kinda of mark up he's putting on them. Is he looting and pillaging?

iherald 05-14-08 10:02 AM

Lance also has that wood Naked Cycles Fixed Gear he got last year. Apparently it's the first bike he's had to pay for in the last twenty years.

TRaffic Jammer 05-14-08 10:08 AM

 wicked... sorry Lance, you ARE mortal and no we don't take cheques.

No can do, wife has volleyball Wednesdays, tonights game is 9:30, worst possible time.

Flimflam 05-14-08 10:26 AM

I saw the guy riding the Yeti in the O-cup pics (who I now know is Pary thanks to Facebook/Wil :)) this morning having an incident with an idiot driver - it never ceases! Heh.

Tube poking through tyre = insta-flat at high pressure = take road bike to work via GO train.

Too much stupid skidding on a thin road tyre my downfall is. It gave me 745 miles of service, it'll work still with a small boot in there to tide it over - hell, it worked for me last night on hand-pump pressure (60psi max?). I'll probably boot it and rotate and thrash the crap out of it some weekend, as it's flat spotted anyways (glad I got those Vredesteins on a mega sale :p)

I think the whole "almost dying of cancer and having a ball lopped off" proved that point already ...
