Yeah, i'm not interested in advertised weight.

I'm afraid I don't have a scale. If you want to weigh them yourself, they're yours. I tried several different ones over the years, including the Vision levers. These had the best feel by far. You can always sell them. I find when I advertise parts for sale, even in a market as large as TO, I seldom have any luck selling. I don't need the few $ selling small parts would gain me, I would rather give them to someone who needs them.

edit: I just dug around and found a Campy Record 1" threaded headset in mint condition (circa 2005). Free for the taking.

freecycle 04-11-08 06:47 PM

funny thought about weight, mostly for road purposes...

the aerodynamic benefit of removing a pencil-sized object from the bike is approximately equal to removing a pound of weight.

how accurate that is, i dunno, but i think it caught my eye on Sheldon Browns site a while back, may he cycle in peace

drool.. my FG commuter could use a new headset but that one is way too nice for my bike :p

Where are you finding all this awesome stuff to give away?

edit: lol - opz quick on the trigger.. I thought you needed something with a super-low stack?

Aerodynamics is nearly always more important than weight. Unless you're doing uphill TT's and/or crits. Cancelerra won san remo on zipp 808's and those ain't light. Break couldn't pull him back because he was too fast 2 furious.

It's all straight out of my basement. The headset is off my Corima Puma, which is currently in with Noah at Velocolour for a custom respray. The original fork was threaded, with a steel steerer. I couldn't get things to work with the front end setup I wanted (Chris King threadless and Rotor S1 stem), so I managed to find a Columbus Carve 1" threadless fork out at Bay Sports in Pickering, and that is the arrangement that will go back on once Noah has finished his magic.

When I lived in Whistler and Vancouver about 10 or so years ago, I started to upgrade and rebuild my bike almost annually. I now have 4 bikes, 3 of which are currently being rebuilt. I have to purge the parts bin once in a while, or I run out of room.

kylehutton 04-11-08 08:39 PM

i'm interested in those bars.

i'll shoot you a pm.

operator 04-11-08 09:07 PM

Man those carbon base bars for $100 look mighty tempting.

cavit8 04-11-08 09:11 PM

Ugh, ugly ride home from catering tonight. Glad I took the rain bike. Need a mudflap on the front fender. Rainsuit kept me nice and dry, except for the 1" between my shoes and pants. My socks have a nice black ring around the ankle now. Good thing I wore wool, kept the toes nice and warm.

Thats a nice bike^.

we've been doing the viewit scouring for a while now, have seen some hell holes, some nice places that practically ask you for a blood sample on the application. actually had one place all lined up and the landlord pulled a fast one. i thought it couldn't hurt to get the friend connection...

We found that once we just gave up on "cheap" and came to terms with 1400-1500 (all-inclusive), a lot more good options became available. May 1 is a great day to be looking for because of all the students taking off. We said we were looking for our last apartment before we buy a home in a few years, which landlords love because you sound all stable and ****-together-y as well as you're not going to take off in 8 months or try to break your lease, etc.

jeremywhitehorn 04-11-08 10:51 PM

i have no qualms about paying more; we're living in a "cheap" place now and you get what you pay for. the big frustration for us has been the hoops landlords make you leap through for the privelage of handing them over 40% of your paycheque every month. personally, i think prospective tenants should be able to check a landlord's references.

jeremywhitehorn 04-11-08 10:54 PM

all this talk of shpants yesterday just reminded me of something: swrve cycling has their current stock knickers on for $75 which is pretty reasonable when you compare it some of the other cycling-specific short-panties out there. just ordered a pair, i'll report back when i get them if anyone's interested.

veteran_youth 04-11-08 11:02 PM

I got new swag too!

I didn't want to post this until it was an SS, which it is now. Well, dingle, MAGIC GEAR dingle at that. (BTW I need to find a chain with the perfect amount of wear to make it work well)

And new shoes, too. SS racing destroyed my Sidi's. Cracked the rib that runs between the cleat bolts. These were a SICK deal on clearout from some online place. Got 2 PURRRRRRRRRZ, bahds.

where did you pick those shoes up? i'm looking to replace a pair of too-small specializedssss.

nice build- if you can't find the perfect gear, why not try the floating chainring technique?

veteran_youth 04-11-08 11:08 PM

Oh yeah forgot to mention I have a pair of Mag 21s (1995, 1 1/8th threadless/cromo) in good working condition (well, for a Mag 21 anyway) that are up for grabs, like, FREE!

It's probably for the better, as my Jamis was a wee bit too small. Anyone want to buy a 2007 Jamis Sputnik (53cm) for $500?

*sigh*

I had thought the bike would be in (around the time you called), but then at the last minute the bike was coming from B.C. and I figured it wasn't meant to be. I made plans w/ the gf instead to do a ride ... and then the bike came in on Friday afternoon. Either way I'm going to be "that guy" now, so the bottom line is that no, I won't be at the Icebreaker tomorrow. I feel like a ****** bailing on it after all the lead-up, but I'd feel like more of a ****** canceling my ride plans w/ the gf because she's looking forward to that and won't go out on a long ride if it's just her.

I will be out at P-A next weekend though, and then feeding myself to the wolves (see above Gary Fisher) in this year's XC singlespeed category.

What, did everyone get a new bike this week?

How is it that nobody has commented on the googly-eyes glued to the front of the superfly yet?

somnambulant 04-12-08 01:34 PM

because we're all jealous of not doing it first

speaking of new bikes, I got one yesterday. Ok, it's used, but it's new to me. The guy at Keel and Annette (used to have like 300 bikes, now is clearing it all out) sold me a yellow Riviera road racer for 60$-- I'll be using it as my commuter/do-everything bike when I'm afraid my new JTS will get stolen. I brought it into The Bike Place (somewhere on Dundas W.) to get a tune-up, new tires (edit), handlebar tape, and some pedals. I'll post pics when I pick the bike up on friday. Only problem is, it's got friction DT shifters, and I've never used DT shifters before, let alone friction shifters (I'm hoping I don't die).

Also picked up some shoes from Sweet Pete's (never used clipless before)

Now just to find some good CX/commuting pedals and I'm all set.
