Woah - I met Rob for the first time "IRL" last night just before I left. Hopefully I didn't rub my bad luck off on him, causing him to crash.
In all seriousness, I hope you get well soon, Rob!

Also: While it sounds like Rob got broked up good, it's probably A Good Thing(TM) that his jaw wasn't broken. My buddy's bro smashed his jaw (riding in Vancouver) this Summer and spent a good portion of the prime Summer season with it wired shut. Not fun. Heal up fast!

Wow, that sounds pretty crazy - thanks nerdsgirth. I live a gnats pube away from St. Joes - I'll call when I'm heading home for an update if he's still there (sounds like he will be).
I was talking to Rob about his nice fancy helmet, RRRRRP was around $300 he said
lol ftw

And yeah, since nobody's mentioned it I assume the other rider got away relatively unscathed?

Once Rob's post-op and settled I'll try to stop in and make fun of him for breaking his face (or possibly buy him some roadie porn to keep him occupied between doses of morphine). Please post any info on where to track him down. (floor/room). Actually, I just realized I don't know Rob's last name. Can someone pm me his last name ... I'll just assume he doesn't want that info on the main thread.

I was thinking of visiting before the race tomorrow.... who down?
Once stabilized, as Mike has pointed out ,the mocking may begin.
I spoke with Mark (Nerdsgirth)... there is photo evidence, so with the net being what it is, while all good hearted in nature .. he will never live this down.

Hi everyone. Will and I spent the night at St. Joes with Rob. One of the most surreal experience I have ever had. Things aren't great. While I didn't see the accident, he had a very blunt force hit to his orbital bone above his eye causing a fracture and major concussion - short term memory loss (determined by exray and scatscan). His Specialized helmet was cracked in the accident. He went through various stages of questioning and understanding. We took very funny minutes, which will be posted when appropriate. You will totally understand if you know Rob's sense of humour.
He is going to be seeing a "plastic surgeon" today. I plan on going back sometime to re-establish the connection with the wonderful (cute young) nurses and drs.
Many thanks to all those involved in his care. The lift from Milo was a godsend. I always knew Will was an awesome guy, but he confirmed it in close quarters. Wishing the best for Rob. 416 five too sevn o too sx svn.

The other party involved in the crash walked away with a cut up finger and a mangled front wheel.

I just read the news! Say it ain't so! I want to look Rob up, although if he's in surgery this afternoon I guess it might be impossible to see him right now. I am down for going later today and tomorrow if anyone else wants to as well let me know. I'd be up for going with you tomorrow Andrew...
Mark, top notch friending good sir! You are a fellow of most solid character. Good show. (Will too, I've never met him but can't be a bad bloke either

yup I'm done at 5...I might be able to sneak out a few minutes earlier
anyone know where he'll be? I can't imagine he'll still be in emerg after surgery.
bugger ..THAT said I will have to be a bit on the quick side this evening if I do visit ... I'm supposed to be going for Pho in the East. Totally down for a longer visit before the race tomorrow. We need to convince some volunteer/nurse/aid/doc/administrator into something rude/risque for Rob's sake. Does he prefer white women?

Robin Chan
St. Joseph's Hospital
Emerg "room 17"
I just saw him. He is doing well and is getting his memory back. He remembers being at the second riding site and is able to joke about it. Thankfully his mother visited this morning. He is happy to see anyone who wants to drop by. The cracked helmet was borrowed from a friend at work, so we might want to start a helmet fund to get him a new one. I called his work to slow down the rumour train. Mitch, thanks for giving him the mtb bike mag!
