Update for those wondering:
Rob (Operator on the forums) had a nasty fall tonight at the sprints landing on his face.
We got him to the hospital alright thanks to Milosz who had his truck, it seems like he's doing pretty well, I think he got a minor concussion.
Wil and Mark stayed with him at the hospital so they'll probably fill us in in the morning.
Heal up Rob.

He did seem fairly.. *cough* tipsy.Heal fast, Rob!
Thanks for keeping us in the loop Mitch.
Must've been the day/night for drama, first Matt (good to see you out though dude), the guy who got unclipped (? I think that's what I heard happen) and did the fall/roll (Shane? Sean?), I saw a guy hit the deck behind the crowd as Wil was talking (he got up OK) and now Rob. Eeek!

Bit of location BS, but sprints were fun - I got a couple runs in (2nd to TJ and 2nd to nerdsgirth though)

Damn.... he was in our race about 10:15 10:20-ish... last gasp for me before leaving, and his last words to me other than CYA, were 'Oh man I'm so drunk.."

I pulled up to the scene shortly after it happened. It seems that a couple of guys were doing a last heading out home sprint. Rob was unfortunately heading the wrong way down the sprint track and got hit pretty much head-on by one of the guys sprinting. He had a small cut on his face from his glasses...but of more concern was a swollen, plum sized bump on his cheek. He was very woozy and didn't know what happened. One of the new guys happens to be a fireman and did a quick round of questions, which he seemed to be able to answer. As he would say...helmet FTW. Props to Will, Milos and Mark for getting him to the hospital and taking care of him. It's hard to say but the consensus among everyone was a possible busted jaw. Lets all hope thats not the case. Too much beer+sprinting=bad.

Bikes: Menonite black urbanite, probably enough spare parts to make anther one.
let's all chip in and get operator a full faced helmet. man, i missed all the drama. i cruised by after work at about 8:30 but there wasn't anyone there so i left.
has anyone considered brining along a simple first aid kit to the sprints? maybe that should be included in all the gear along with the stopwatch, cowbell etc...

edit: speaking of which, I'm thinking about doing first-aid training again. Is anyone else interested? I've done it before, back in my ski-patrol days, but that was about 10 years ago. So that means I'm no longer certified and my memory of the topic is a little spotty.
It'd be nice to have someone I knew there as there's often a need for a partner during training. You know, to practice CPR on and stuFF. Rowr! hehehe.. ok, maybe not.

Thanks for coming out lastnight everyone. Great time and at last count we had about 65 people there! Sorry about the location snafu. As I said, there wasn't really a plan A so there was no plan B. However, the security dudes at the Ex were cool about it - I have the number so we'll be calling to see if they'll let us continue to hold it there - as was the guard at Ontario Place. In fact, at OP he just said, "can you guys put the pylon back when you're done?" and that was it. So if the Ex doesn't work out, perhaps we'll stay there as long as we can. I think it's a better set up personally but I'm interested in people's thoughts on that venue.
Major props to Milo, Will and Mark for taking good care of our man Op. Get better soon dude... I hope you're not too concused. And agreed on the first aid kit, there will be one next week. That's something I'd intended to do but hadn't managed to remember yet.
Who's coming out to King Tobra's race tomorrow? I think I'm working a check point but we should have some serious beers afterwards.

If anyone here is interested in the cyclo-core / cyclo-zen dvds (https://www.cyclo-core.com/), send me a PM. Cavernmech/Nerdsgirth, I think both of you expressed interest... not sure about anyone else.

because of the work i do i get re-certified every year. the city of toronto puts on courses in conjunction with emergency medical services. i think it's cheaper than st john's. good idea to cough up a bit of cash for some training, "just in case".
sorry though wes, they have these new-fangled plastic "dummies" to work on these days. but then again, maybe you're into that sort of thing?

ps. someone came in this morning and said he witnessed a cyclist get doored into the path of an on-coming car at bloor and brunswick. hope she (and her bike) is ok.

Wes, depending on timing/cost I'm up for doing first aid training, it's been a few years since I did mine (though mine was more aimed toward the "you're up the creek with no paddle" style - even superglue was a part of our kits to glue peoples parts back together in times of dire need - yeah, it can get that bad :| Battlefield first-aid, mmhmm)
Sucks to hear about the dooring, jeesh.
Any deets re: Rob and his location would be good times, I'll swing by after work if he's still around downtown.
Now that cavernmech described the incident (ouch, btw), I think it'd be a good idea to REALLY stress to folks that they take the parking lot back to the hangout/start area rather than the road. Maybe if we have a finish-line crowd that can holler at finishers once they start back as a reminder.
My .02 on the place: I liked the OP venue (was the runoff comfortable for the fixed guys? it seemed short-ish), the BMO field lot seemed to suck, but if the Ex will let us stay on the road there, that's sweet.
I've been offered my buddies fixie to race tomorrow, but I can't face the idea of being a n00b AND running 52/16, so I won't be partaking - have fun, keep safe.
Anyone know if Nadirs 90k alleycat is track/FG or open?
Also: anyone got any spare eggbeater cleats or a lead on where to get them, I want to get my other shoes hooked up.

(https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0805564/)Looks like UofT offers training to staff that are 'assigned to a first aid station'. I know we have one at the office, so I'm gonna try to get myself some free training.

flimflam: yeah, mine went beyond standard first aid too. It was for ski patrol so there were lots of alpine-specific things and it lasted a couple full weekends if I remember correctly. And you should be able to pick up crank bros. cleats at just about any major bike shop. Try Sweet Pete's.

I've done some first aid years ago (combat first aid...blood loss, busted bones, shock, projectiles protruding from where no projectile should be...etc), a refresher is a good idea.
Hey how about a St. John's ambulance at the race? Adds a certain preparedness/respectability to the event, and some fast response in case of a major slam... *fingers crossed on this never happening*
Oh Rob...
Keith this wasn't after the sprint with me and Flimflam and (Dave?)was it?
I might be hitting up the race tomorrow.... I haven't officially hit up to work a check point or anything so I'll more than likely hit up early-ish and see where I can help.
