that deep section rim looks like either a campy shamal or an anodized cxp-33 (or 14) to me...

operator 12-02-07 02:54 PM

That ain't no shamal. How deep is the section?

quick question, any shops or places actually sell frame saver? if not, I'll just go get some rust prevention spray from crappytire.

I rode down to Bay & Dundas to pick up some Tremclad Rust Paint today, and just briefly checked out the other rust treatment products. From reading the directions on the can, it seems like its a rust-removing primer, so not for use inside tubes. What the heck is T-9, anyways?

I'm not disagreeing with you at all; if you take care of it, the frame will be fine for years. I guess the vast majority of people that buy steel bikes either give them up before rusting becomes a big problem, or just let the rust eat at the frame until its un-rideable. People don't take care: just along Harbord today, I saw a dude hauling his Cervelo through the slush , turned up Clinton, and saw a near-perfect condition Miele locked up to a street sign. Makes me feel for the bikes, really..

Be careful folks.Hoverin' around zero with rain on top of hardpack = no fun

The rim on that Surly is an Ambrosio Futura. It has this grey-y/bluey colour. Looks really nice. At least one of the fleet bikes at the velodrome has those rims on it.

Random request: As a new member of my firm, I am told to do a christmas skit at the annual christmas party. That fine, and the new people there have written a poem to be performed.

However, I have been asked to take the Word document the poem is in and 'publish' it nice so that we can have it framed and give it to the partners afterwards.

The problem is I have NO idea how the best way to do it is. I was thinking Indesign, and I opened it up and just stared at the screen having no idea what to do.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

If you want it laid out nicely on the cheap, look into LaTeX. Its not easy, but it will produce documents that are professionally formatted. The actual output file will be PDF or Postscript.

TeX 4tw!

I keep getting disturbed by the fact that dunk drivers are attracted to blinking lights. Well documented collisions between cars and emergency vehicles with flashing lights. etc. etc.

Offer beer to vagrants on Toronto Fixed. Email Word document. Get returned pdf. Check carefully for cleverly misplaced or tweaked phrases like "Senior partner lobotomy" instead of "Seasons greetings to all". Print on card stock. Take credit for getting a favour from a "graphic designer you know" so you don't end up the as the go-to-guy for stuff like this in the future.

Good plan! Anyone want some beer for a quick job? I think the only thing that may take a little time is some sort of font selection.

I believe "America... **** yeah!" or "USA USA USA!" would be appropriate. You wouldn't see that guy riding this steed in the slush.

I sprayed out the inside of my winter frame with Boeshield and it's been good - that said, the frame is alu. anyway so it may not be quite as much of a concern anyway...

So the final weekend of moving bikes and cleaning up is finished. Feels weird after 12 years of going in to the shop every morning. Not sure what to do with myself today...guess I'll have a crap then maybe wind my watch.
A hearty cheers and thanks to everyone who came out to Betty's on Friday. I was rather surprised to see so many folks out. Made my night. A special thanks go out to T.J. for the toast and all who contributed to my retirement(?) present. The next tasting night is at my place! Cheers, K.
The Jefferson's or Price is Right? Hmmmm these are the hard decisions I was trying to get away from.

Hahaha, all class.

Sorry I couldn't make it - I was in O town for the weekend (Wes, be glad you didn't go, it was cold as ****! - wish I could have been there to give the shop a proper send off.

My $0.02: As someone who has spent waaaaay too much time with LaTeX -- it's great only if you a) are familiar with markup languages (like HTML), b) can find the template/style file for the type of document you're publishing. Writing a style file from scratch is nearly hopeless for the average man.

Bikes bikes bikes.

PS - Operator: sry no time for GoW

Oh, Christ! I wasn't suggesting he write his own document class; writing one is way too intense. But finding the right one in CTAN using WinEdit is pretty easy.

Dear nerds,

No lawyer is ever going to use LaTeX to format a poem to print for their office.

Love and kisses,
Wesley

ps. Y'alls are all making this overly complex. Just use Word, make it pretty and take the file down to Kinko's/print three/whatever and get it printed onto cardstock. Unless you're going for something way fancier than how I picture a printed poem..?

pps. just print this and be done with it:
