In my house apparently I was voted official snow-remover... in other words, between my landlords and the 6 other people (7 if you include my lovely partner ) in the 3 other apartments in my house, I'm the only person that has ever done it.

edit: the other side of the coin: my neighbor on one side shoveled my sidewalk yesterday morning. Then in the late afternoon my neighbor on the other side used his snowblower to clear off the sidewalk in about an 8 house swath. That makes me feel warm and fuzzy.

Shoveled 3 times, made a killer fort for my 10yr old (which will take on GitMo' proportions over the winter) ... now just waiting for enemy combatants to wander by. Snow sledded our festive shrubbery home... all in all an awesome day. YAY SNOW!!!!

If there is a multi-unit dwelling the landlord is responsible for all sidewalks around the property. (think twice about buying that corner lot babies) If you are renting a house or other single dwelling you as the renter are. Now landlords can enter agreements with a particular tenant to take care of this kinda stuff in small building vis-a-vis the joker down the hall who seems to somehow live for free.

Out of 6 apartments and 10 people in my house, I am also official snow-remover. Same deal as you, although at least my neighbour and I have an unspoken agreement that we just take turns doing both houses.

The ride in was OK today I guess. I found running up the middle to be the clearest route rather than sliding around to the right of traffic.

What's Harbord like? I took College which was fine as long as I took the middle of the curb lane. I assume the bike lane is totally filled with snow on Harbord.

Yup I was just to the right of the same direction lane line... left edge of curb lane.... not a single honk...had one guy come up close... I was wearing skull mask today, turned in the pedals gave him THE LOOK.TM and he backed right off.

Harbord is fine. No bike lane, but I pretty much assume that to be the case from Dec-March.

Had to take the streetcar in this morning and getting on at Marion/Roncesvalles, I already had TTC-rage by the time we got around the corner to Wilson Park.. Inbreds in cars trying to squeeze past/through in the curblane, man I was frustrated at how slow it was going... Alas, idiots are idiots regardless of snow.

I take offence to Dean Blundells "spot the tard" piece in the mornings mentioning cyclists.. Can't wait to get out there, but I've missed most of the fun I guess, all looks fairly slushy/clear now on the majors around here.

If I'm around and can find a shovel, I'll shovel my steps down to the basement, and the main paths, etc. all for our house (4 or 5 apartments I would guess) - I don't mind shovelling (I figure I need the workout) - I came home last night to find some tit had shovelled everything but my areas I guess I don't care, but it's the principle I'd made the effort previously for them, and they didn't bother for me. Turds.

Can't wait to sled on the hills off of Broadview, I've not yet been down that one

Got cabin fever yesterday night, so I headed out around 10:30PM, went down (slalom) the Bathurst hill with one foot clipped and the other balancing on the road to Bloor, then down Yonge to work's parking garage, then back home via University, Bloor, & Bathurst. I had to walk the bike up Bathurst, because my slicks wouldn't grip at all. Personally, I was impressed the city managed to clean as much as they did between midnight and this morning.

The ride in was slow, but steady; streetcar tracks are pure death, though.

Need to get some knobbies on my OCR2. The frame uses long reach brakes, so I might be able to swing 700x30s. Gotta check out what Urbane has to offer.

Dean Blundell is a complete tool. Although I haven't heard that bit, I am not surprised. Ask him how he enjoyed his commute from Markham. Ask John Derringer how he enjoyed his commute from Aurora. They have no clue about anything, including bikes.

as a renter and currently the only male in our house of apartments i am the defacto snow clearer. we also share a communal driveway with the house next to ours so it can be a chore. my old neighbour used to literally draw a line lengthwise down the driveway and only shovel his half. i say first one to take the initiative does it all, but that's just me...isn't it your canadian duty to shovel the driveway and push people's cars out of snowbanks when they're stuck? like some sort of code of honour.

I'll shovel a neighbouring walkway, esp. if the neighbour is old or infirm (both my current neighbours take great pride in their snow clearing abilities...they'd probably challenge me to a duel if I did any of their shoveling)

But I won't push cars out of snowbanks, just a smile and friendly words of encouragement for dorks gunning the engine to go drive in poor conditions while I walk or ride where I'm going.

I've got to go downtown to ship some stuff today, I'm thinking I'll ride cause TTC must be awful crowded today.

Which ISP? Bell has apparently started packet-shaping for bittorrent downloads, so that could explain it, depending on if they're your isp and when you noticed the slow-down.

Peer guardian = firewall? I'm assuming you've made sure the appropriate ports aren't being blocked by it and/or the OS X firewall and/or your router.

I actually haven't tried Transmission yet. I've been happy with my rates lately in Azureus, although the thing is a total system resource hog.

Went to MEC at lunch to eye booties/toe covers - the line-ups were HUGE, but they've got some bike-merch. on sale (inc. some clothing from what I could see). A mistaken Burrito Boyz pickup meant I zipped out on the bike after, too - fun times, definitely proved to me the skinny tyre/snow theory as Brant and Camden were/are pretty caked up still.
