I love this.

So nice! That seat tube looks like it is nearly 90 degrees, I wonder how it rides on the street?

Flimflam, was that you I saw around 12:30 at Danforth and pape? Conversion looks good.

This is a throwdown, a showdown. Hell no I can't slow down.
It's gonna go-down.

kylehutton 02-16-08 10:35 AM

who here is a mechanic?

i need someone to take a look at my conversion.
the non drive side crank moves about 10 degrees without the drive side moving.

new bottom bracket?

i've got a set of sugino mighty's for it, but need new pedals.
the current cranks are the shimano ax with the proprietary pedals.

Cottered cranks or regular square taper? If it's square taper the crank holes might've been rounded out from riding cranks loose. If it's cottered cranks the pin might be loose.

kylehutton 02-16-08 10:44 AM

they're square taper.

i'll pull it off and take a look.

Could be a busted BB axle too, although I imagine that'd be pretty sloppy axially too.

I thought about that, but wouldn't it just keep turning around both sides, and not catch after a while? Actually that doesn't seem to make sense for rounded out crank arm hole either.

jeremywhitehorn 02-16-08 10:54 AM

damn, i wish i could come out and watch the mahem, but like pyse i live a cook's life and must work. someone please take a camera to record the carnage. and watch your shins around all those screws!

jeremywhitehorn 02-16-08 10:55 AM

maybe it's the crank is on too loose? those AX cranks didn't use a proprietary BB? i have a set of AX calipers and they have all sorts of non-standard stuff in them.

I_bRAD 02-16-08 10:55 AM

If the break wasn't straight across the axle then you'd have a point where the two parts push themselves against the cups and "catch" otherwise the slop would allow some movement between the two halves.

I_bRAD 02-16-08 10:56 AM

I know nothing specific about AX stuff, just going with my impression. My first thought was loose cotter but that's obviously not the problem.

kylehutton 02-16-08 10:57 AM

pulling the bolt out, you can see the spindle moving with the crank arm.
the crank arm doesnt look rounded out.

who's open today in the core?
i'm at college/ossington, and have to go to queen/bay to work for a bit.

I_bRAD 02-16-08 11:53 AM

Derek will be in at the bike joint for a while... not sure what time he's closing up to go set up the race though.

So... looks like my studded tires on cheapy SS wheels add 7lbs to my normal 8sp wheels

Have any of you ever been to the International Bicycle Show? The Spring show is happening in a few weeks and I was thinking it would be a good place to shop for a new frame and other components for my winter fg project. But if there's usually not much doing I'd just as soon skip it, since it's pretty much just a shopping trip for me.

I was waiting for Bikes on Wheels to get their shipment of IROs but bah gawd I'm getting antsy!

If it wasn't for TJ, I would say it wasn't worth going.

Everyone told me it wasn't worth going last year but I went anyway and found my favourite bike (my Guerciotti road bike) for $100. They had super cheap Mavic rims and tires and stuff too. Just sayin'.

I_bRAD 02-16-08 03:59 PM

I got in on some of those mavic rims last year. They were selling them at cost as long as you bought 2 :)
