For the folks interested in CETMA stuff. We have em in a box in the store, but due to the stocking guys being in Montreal for the bike show, they havn't hit the floor yet. We have 3, 5 and 7 rail models w/ fences. Price is $80-$200 depending on configuration. |

Hey Steeker!
I've seen you at a few CM rides since life got in the way and you had to take a break from the forums, etc. Did that recumbent end up being a good solution for your back issues? |
Hi steeker!
|
So it turns out that bike I found is an absolutely all-original Raleigh Superbe, and it functions perfectly. New headset needed, and a complete hub overhaul, but running nicely, even the chrome shined up all right, and the generator hub generates. I didnt even have to replace the bulbs. Score one for the FC.
Unfortunately, due to the sin that is stripping an all original vintage, still no winter bike. Anyone up for a long ride this weekend? +, heading to the Cummer skate park thurs, if the weather holds long enough, to destroy a wally-world BMX, if anyones bored enough or actually rides vert. edit: steeker? kudos. i puff happily in your general direction good sir. |
where do you find these things? scrap yard hook-ups?

Yes, yes I can. And thank you much for letting me borrow it. Now I dunno if its just my washing machine or what, but theres some super stubborn dirt and such in a few places, so I might end up replacing it for you.
Sorry I havent brought it back yet, its been a busy week :o |
good times on the road yesterday and today... passed by the police cordoned Armel Ct. apartments on the way home, wondering WTF was up, then got to Eglinton and saw the backup from the 401. When I finally got home, thestar.com linked those two events for me: the shooting on the 401 and subsequent tuck & roll pushed all the traffic south, to Eglinton, and the involved vehicle wound up at Armel Ct!
Just yesterday, I had to divert my route home near Keele & Eglinton because of the homicide at that bus shelter. Why does the NW corridor have to be such a classy place? update: I think my route needs to change :( |

steeker - long time no post. hope you're doing well.

it's funny how the last thing the justice system will do is put someone in jail for bad driving. perhaps we should work to abolish the term "traffic accident" when in fact all collisions are preventable with safe driving habits. i just don't buy the argument that just because you kill someone while behind the wheel you get no punishment for it because of the "whoops" factor. i remember my dad always told me when he was teaching me to drive: "remember you are guiding a 3000lb loaded gun". when you have that perspective drilled into your head it's hard to take driving lightly.
maybe we could draft a letter to the people in this woman's community to let them know what's going on? |

I ended up riding up to Bathurst and Finch and visiting my Grand Parents. They fed me. It was kickass. |
So, last night I'm catering in an ampartment in the Windsor Arms Private Residence. Mermorable for 2 reasons.
1. Paris Hilton was staying next door and dropped in for a moment. 2. When I went to get my truck I had to go out the front door. They were maybe 200-300 people outside waiting for the famous people to emerge from the hotel and residence, soooo I paused at the door with my back turned and then whipped open the door and gave a wave and smile to a multitude of flashing cameras and a cheer that quickly tapered off as they crowd realizied that I was not famous. The cop doing crowd control almost lost it he was laughing so hard. I also kept walking in front of the cameras for the various shows filming/interviewing people for the In Style Party as I was allowed to walk up and down the closed off street. Look for the smiling chef on TV tonight. |

I usually just throw on the lycra jobbies under whatever I'm wearing for the padding whenever I know I'm going to be in the saddle for an extended period of time... |

I have a pair of Swrve knickers which I really like, for the most part, and I think they're cheaper than the Chrome ones. They fit pretty snug though, even on my chicken legs. |
yeah i have a pair of the heavier weight ones (as in heavier fabric, not as in i'm a heavy weight)
they are good but i don't think i'd buy another pair ... i've put a lot of km's on them but they seem to have worn out more than they should have, the fabric seems to get a lot of imperfections as well after being washed even after following the instructions the built-in chamois is actually really good ... i don't think i ever really felt uncomfortable in them i still use them but for longer rides i like liners (like matt talked about) and rapha touring shorts |
Wondering if anyone can give me a bit of direction... this isn't for FGSS but people seem to know more here than other forums...
It appears that the only place in the city that does fitting for custom Marinoni is La Bicicletta (Bike Specialties guy retired last year??). Anywhere else in the city? Also if anyone knows of other custom frame fitters/dealers - lemme know. The Marinoni Sportivo line is ideal for me as it's good for road and touring. Thanks very much for any info. |
thanks for the input. looks like i'm heading to mec. i'll take lots of pics.

A little late on this but the Cetma racks rock. While at CMWC Morgan and I did a beer run and he carried 3 24s Cans) back to the shop on his 5 rail that is mounted on his Colnago Olympic Pista! Clearly my dare was not daring enough:

What gearing do y'all use in the city? I have been getting some knee pain as of late (I injured my left knee once when I was 9
and then again, badly, when I was 16)and I think I am going to go down a bit. Currently, I am at 48X15. What is the retail price on one of them there Marinoni Pista frame-sets? Did Canice ever post up pics of her purple one? |
48x15 is pretty high. At 25kph you're at 60rpm. Higher cadences (80-100rpm) are better for the knees apparently. My friend's uncle who used to race at the Montreal track told us he used 48x16 most of the time and put the 15 when he got well in shape.
I use a low gear: 40x17. Nice compromise for the city |
if i recall correctly a frameset is around $750.
i rode 48X16 for about a year and a half no problems. When I got my marinoni it was 48X15 but I thought that was too high. I ride 48X17 now and it's great. |
