Whats the turn around point for that ride? I know it leaves from Square 1 but do they turn back in Niagara on the Lake or Niagara falls? |

well i guess iherald isn't riding the hairshirt so i needn't impart any wisdom about it. i'd love to do it again this year but i fear i haven't put enough training miles in yet. in my experience you should be able to do a 100km ride painlessly by mid-april if you don't want to suffer. or be mitch. either one... joining the randonneurs is a good idea as they will teach you to ride sensibly and know your own pace.
if there was enough interest in riding as a group i could be motivated.... |

ps. disc brakes (and tacos) rule! |
so much for the zen approach: instead of flipping out on a driver this morning for cutting me off i gave her the 'kill 'em with kindness' treatment waiting next to the window at a red light... "hi there, nice day isn't it, gee you look stressed, that's a shame etc".
felt great, until i started pedalling again and realised my back tire was completely flat. crap. stopped, and looked in my trunk bag. got a wrench and pump, but levers and patch kit are attached to the other bike. crap again. called work to let them know what happened and started on my walk of shame. in non-walking shoes. such is life. look out bike joint, here i come! |
Did you know?
After about a year of use or so Crank Brothers cleats work with Time Atac pedals. Get out there and hurt yourselves, kids! |

Indeed.... hosed the Pake down, lubed it, summer shoes, no gloves, cap not hat.... oh yes.
SPRING ... you can feel it. WOOT WOOT!! NOTE: do not get fully sucked in, as we ALL know there will be at least one more storm. |
My normal commuting route takes me down Beverley through the UoT campus and east onto College. I take that route specifically because of the corner. I can take it way too fast, cut left around oncoming traffic, cross the streetcar tracks, avoid the manhole cover and take the rest of the turn hard enough to clear the snowbank filling the bike lane/car parked in the bike lane. It's just a fun corner to take really fast and add a bit of flow to.
So ... today I'm coming up to the corner w/ a car behind me, I start the turn and my front tire goes completely flat (stupid glass). Holy crizzzap on a stick was that ever intense. I couldn't ride it out straight because I'd go straight into oncoming traffic, couldn't stop because of the car right behind me, still had to avoid the wet streetcar tracks and manhole cover, etc. Thank you, cyclocross season and limited experience in the Don for giving me the bike handing skills to somehow make the turn at speed and pull off to the side after the corner. I don't how I didn't throw the tire off the rim because it sure as hell fell like I was about to, but oh well - I'll take what I can get! </silly commuting story> |
