i was walking along king/spadina for my morning coffee this morning and spotting a busted post/ring lock, the ring perfectly cracked right down the middle amid broken splinters of 2x4. i'm pretty familiar with the bikes locked up in that area and i'm sure no one locks up anything really high-end there. called the number to report damage post/rings and left a message. it's the first one i've seen.. steps away from my ***ing work!!!

wheel building peeps: is it much harder to build a wheel with a low spoke count vs one with a more standard #? I've never built a wheelset before, but I'm considering building up a bling track wheelset this fall. Is it stupid for me to build my first wheel with say 20 spokes? :)
and on a similar note, is it stupid to build a track wheel with a low spoke count? edit: it appears as though track hubs don't come in anything lower than 28-spoke. :) |

You *could* build a 16 spoke wheel on a 32 hole track hub, skipping every other hole....I wouldn't want to, but it can be done if you are so inclined. Just tell your buddies that the empty spoke holes are "speed holes". If you do build a low spoke count wheel, use a deep section rim, it will help with wheel strength. |

Typically low spoke count wheels have components engineered to work together. When you try and take standard parts and do this type of thing it doesn't work out too well. Case in point spoke nipples. because a low count wheel has so fewer spokes each one must be at a higher tension. Standard nipple flanks don't take well to reefing on them at high tension and stripping them is very easily done. You would want hex head spoke nipples which present their own problems. 28 is low for track wheels. |

Oh man, I get defrauded 1600 dollars from my bank account, dumped by my girlfriend and drop my chain going through a red all in one day. Talk about a ****ty day. Plus I have to move houses tomorrow. And its the busiest week at work yet and I have to organize a camping trip. Argh.
