Yeah. As soon as we're hitting 20 -25 highs i'm going to do it (no idea when that's going). The last time I rode to niagara was in late september. Do you already have a route? I went lakeshore -> N service road which was mucho boring-o. I'm going to run 42x15 with a bailout 16 on the flop side.
P.S I take the go train nearly daily for the homeward trip. Comfortable and fast. I hear conflicting re: very bad reports of service on the Lakeshore go line. Probably 46x17 or 42x17.. between 66-76GI I think that is. |

kylehutton - which one of the group were you? I was the only one of the crowd on a geared bike and had the garish hi-vis vest on.
I'm the one who showed up just as you guys were leaving dundas square. leather jacket, bucket helmet, on a gt |
Whenever I pick up a shift at OGH I ride back along hwy 2. Takes about 2:15-2:20 and is uber flat other then the area around the rouge. the only problem area I find is the traffic between Ajax and Whitby. On another note, tech will be in tommorow to service the water tank. Good thing I take cold showers anyways :p
|
I'd be interested in riding my road bike to Niagra Falls for sure. If I'm not allowed to ride gears I'll just do it anyway. What are YOU going to do about it. Yeah I went there.
|
I like gears. I don't really have a problem riding there and back fixed... but if we're camping in between I'd rather take L'il hauler.

So MEC got caught again using shady business practices. That's the third time I know of that they've ****ed over a brand and gone to the grey market (only to be found out and banned from buying/selling the product, or at least causing huge SNAFUs in the rest of the industry). If I'm not mistaken that brings the total to:
- Crank Brothers pedals - Park tools - Topeak accessories They might be a "green" company but any idea of them being a nice co-op is a ****ing joke. |
On the bright side, Planet Bike along with Ridley, Shimano, Mavic, etc. are sponsoring Jonathan Page in CX this year. That's pretty cool - he'll get to stay racing over there and try to make more of a name for himself (he's the only dude from North America able to compete at that level right now).

I stopped shopping at MEC after being told by the paddling rep, after asking for minicell foam, that they didn't sell mini cell-phones.....
(I then had to show them where it was in the storage area and tell them how much it was per square foot.) I have another less savoury story as to why I won't shop there anymore, but I'll spare that one as I get all worked up and I've had a bottle of wine already tonight... |

For Immediate Release
Lambert announces end of Topeak Partnership Lévis, Québec; March 13, 2008. Lambert today announced that it has reached a mutual agreement with Topeak to end its distribution partnership. For the upcoming season, Lambert retains exclusivity until September 1, 2008 and guarantees that inventory and shipments will be maintained until next fall to serve IBDs and respect partnership agreements nationwide. While Lambert respects Topeak for its position in the marketplace, the decision was made as both organizations recognized they were at crossroads in terms of long-term product vision and market development strategies in channels parallel to IBDs. Product Innovation Lambert’s goal is to be the one-stop-shop for IBDs across Canada, selecting innovative products that take into account the needs and product recommendations of customers nationwide. With this philosophy in mind, Lambert has attracted many new brands, some of which Topeak took issue with. However, Lambert remains firm that a constant flow of innovation is key for IBDs—and for our industry—to thrive. Grey Market After consistent efforts from Lambert and Topeak, we were able to identify the grey-market sources which led to Topeak being sold at MEC; however, steps to actually stop this practice remain to be concretely taken by Topeak. Lambert is pleased with the results it has provided Topeak—both with brand recognition and sales in Canada—and extends best wishes to Topeak in its future endeavours. |

Diapers for the baby. Not for me.

i could be tempted to do a ride to the falls this year but i'm with Dan, i'd probably take my road bike. unless i would be publicly shunned, then i'd just ride my fixie and take the train back.
on another note, from what i remember it's 75km one way to north whitby from my place (roncesvalles) last time i checked. |

on another note, from what i remember it's 75km one way to north whitby from my place (roncesvalles) last time i checked. 75k one way? Hmm. I've only got Google Maps to go by, avoiding highways it claims 53.8km (Roncesvalles/Marion to Brock/Mary in Whitby) which goes across Dundas->Kingston->Lawrence/Port Union to skip out the highway dealy there, then back onto Kingston Rd. I think I'll do a trial run next weekend and see how it goes and what the actual numbers are on the odometer and see how the terrain is, it's been around 2 years since I rode that far east.. plus winter = crap roads. Lacrosse was fun, a LOT more people watching than I ever had thought - there was even a fight in the stands over a stray ball :) |
Try mapping the exact distance with gmaps pedometer flimflam.
|
the only data i have to go by is watching the odometer in the car as i drove to my parents' house along the 401 etc. and they live in brooklin which is a bit north of whitby. i don't think i've ever ridden out there although i have rode to oshawa which is always a treat in rush hour.
|
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1720345 33 miles/53km - not my preferred way of crossing town on Dundas, but that can always be figured out - I could take Bloor across to where Danforth meets Kingston, etc.
Still, a commute of ~50km is going to be challenging :) |

Dan, I'm around Sat morning and evening, most of Sunday until mid afternoon and all Monday. All kinds of goodies here, like a buffet of mtbs. Actually I have everything to build a complete geared mtb. Some are free, some will require a donation to the diaper fund.
