Nice discussion re: DSR stuff, I'm totally with the "ride fast not acting like an *******" line of thought - I'd love to race my bike, but I know the streets aren't really the place for it - my personal angle is that I want to get to know more people by riding with them, hammering down Dovercourt (which I did take part in last week admittedly) isn't the way to get 'er done.

Thanks for the tyre offers cavit8/Dr. Benway - I was just about to respond when I noticed I've already had my last pay check as of midnight (booyah!) - so I'm going to go shopping shortly. Appreciate the offer, though - it blows me away you guys were willing to help me out just so I could ride my bike - I love that community feel, thanks again.

First, to take the Rob Roy + bits to CT via bike, this ought to be interesting :D

PS, the stock fork is heavier than sin on this thing - any typical suggestions for a replacement?

Agreed fully on all points on the DSR ride comments above. Just got back from the ride to Humber-North with Mike. We took Weston most of the way. I'll post the route later once I've showered and had some food and ripped the data from ye olde GPSe. I think it was significantly faster by bike than it is via transit, which is also nice for The Mike.

Anyone oot 'n aboot this afternoon? I might go grab a coffee or beer someplace since the sunshine is making it too nice to stay inside all afternoon.

Requirements (fenders/front rack capability/etc.)?

Off the top of my head I might take a look at the Ritchey Comp CX fork.

In my case (I got a R.R. group buy frameset too) I'm turning it into a singlespeed cyclocross race bike and going a bit off the deep end (Alpha Q CX20 full carbon fork). Booya.

Re: Bloor/Ossington > Humber College (15' break plus two minor wrong turns) ... 2'05" by my watch.

Here's the (40k round trip) route: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1739368

It takes me an hour either way on transit. By bike took us an hour to get there as well and only 50 minutes or so to make it back.

I love how Ascent, the program I use to download/view all my data from the bike computer, gives you a total average speed, but also an average moving speed. Our total average was only ~18km/h, which seems kinda lame, but our moving average was ~25km/h, which seems pretty on par with our effort.

Here's the route: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/118930

cool beans on the telemetry, that rocks! Looking over the DSR feedback it reminds me of the 80's vert sessions where everyone stood around seemingly sizing up everyone until finally someone dropped in and then mayhem would ensue with everyone snaking one another, cept there were no cars on the ramp. :)

Hey Mike- The best "bike lane" in the city runs from scarlett to martin grove along eglinton. You might want to check that out.

Coffee and a short leg-stretch ride tomorrow morning, anyone? It's supposed to be similar weather to today, and I'd like to enjoy it before the rain on Monday-Tuesday. :)

Herbie_Glick 03-29-08 07:02 PM

I'm in for a ride. Call me in the morning. I'll PM you my number as I don't remember if you have it. What time you thinking?

At some point but not yet. I'm heinously out of shape from a winter of just riding to U of T and need to do some minor tuning up to the Pinarello. Plus I'm having a big bacon and eggs breakfast tomorrow.

with respect to the unwanted attitudes that the DSR ride seems to have attracted perhaps i could suggest a name change to the ride that would make it seem a little less urban-psyeudo-messengery-cool; a name such as the "kittens ride" or the "unicorn rainbow scramble" or "math spin" might attract the kind of people down to earth enough to just show up and have a good time with the love of riding bikes in common. like my dad always told me: take your work seriously, never take yourself seriously.

I saw someone rockin' a white and red rossin fixed around the CNE on my ride home tonight. Those bikes are purdy...

Herbie_Glick 03-30-08 02:30 AM

The yellow on black ones are nicer IMO......

Last post at 4:30am. It would be very evil for me to call right now, methinks. :D
