it must be something in the air with the crazy drivers - i had a cabbie literally screaming full volume at me on saturday night after i slapped his mirror when he was creeping too close to me. when you hit a bumper/hood/whatever like that drivers must assume that you've broken something. i dunno.

on an unrelated note, i just realized that as i don't have cable, all that i get on tv from now until june is hockey and american idol. i mean i like hockey like any good canadian...

I don't think many drivers really understand how tough their cars are. Its a metal casket designed to take various collisions from other vehicles - it can take the whack of someone's hand. On the other hand, drivers have a disproportionate lack of of courtesy to anything that isn't them. Its incredible to see the carelessness with which some drivers will take left hand turns or ignore cross-walks. Just last night, I took a stroll down to Sobeys, and had to use the cross-walk at Davenport & Shaw. AFTER pressing the cross light, 4 cars blasted through the crosswalk without taking notice. Incredible...

If you have an older tv with a non cable tuner you can usually pull in 7-10 depending on the quality of your rabbit ears/tinfoil set-up.

\o/

btw. Let me know when you get the 360 anyway as I have about a dozen games you can borrow.

 Wow.. I need to get new friends with better discounts.. been looking at a 360 but it's way cost prohibitive.

Wes - just curious as to what your intentions are for the modded xbox? I use mine mostly as a streaming media player (and to play NES games) but the fan noise can get annoying during movies.

LordFoo 04-09-08 09:15 PM

Isn't 360 backwards compatible?

On topic (?):

Yeah it was an awesome ride tonight. East on bloor, north up main and into the don at the creek paved section, out at the lot up the hills of Bayview, cross Moore?, and back down Mt. Pleasant. Whoa my legs are feeling it. The wind heading back West was brutal... so brutal I picked up 4l of milk and a jumbo rice crispies at the 24 hr just to get a little more drag for the last 5min. Tonight, I really loved Toronto.

kylehutton 04-09-08 10:32 PM

my legs are fine now, but they'll be sore in the morning.

there are some muscles that just havent been used as i dont usually go north, so i dont get any major hills.

really fun ride all in all.

gmap pedometer puts it around 25km give or take (they dont have the trails mapped.)
not bad considering i was in my house shortly after 11 and we left dundas square after 915

Yeah, going to do XBMC. I was originally going to build a little HTPC, but I couldn't justify the extra cost/complexity.

bikes.

On one condition.

I will buy that for you if you track down the original owner of the Rocky Mountain Blizzard for sale at the pawn shop down the street from C.T., inform them that their stolen bike is there, convince them not to go take it back and let me buy it guilt-free for $160 (it's in ridiculously good condition).

Otherwise, I'm letting it set there until some other schmuck buys it and trashes it (and no bike for you).

operator 04-10-08 06:08 AM

Rocky mountain for $160? I'm there!

:)

Flimflam 04-10-08 06:25 AM

Damn that sucks, I was in the Main/Danforth area last night but wasn't able to get down to the Square in time - hah! Reminds me to check my twitter. Sounds like a good run though - I was pooped after the commute and just mosied along into the headwind west to my place.

oh yeah - i remember that happening; i think there was a safety meeting that day...

extremely annoying!

somnambulant 04-10-08 07:11 AM

Going into the Don straight from work at ~5:00, if anyone's interested. I want to get in a ride before all the rain in the forecast soaks everything.

Herbie_Glick 04-10-08 07:31 AM

Flat coming into work today makes three in less then nine hours.....FU#K! Bombing down Mount Pleasant last night with 60psi made it worth it though...oh wait no it didn't. Teddy's pics from last night are up on facebook group btw.

freecycle 04-10-08 07:35 AM

you should invest in that stop-flats tape, i hit the link and it seems like a pretty good idea, god knows where you can find it in store tho. they have an inner-tube guarantee too, if the thing lets anything puncture your innertube they send you a new one, and more of the tape.

shapelike 04-10-08 07:41 AM

I'm going to be placing a Twin Six order now that most (all?) of there styles are in stock. Please get in touch if you want anything. Prices will likely be the same as what's posted on the site (except in $CDN) and there won't be any shipping/border fees.

I've personally seen Mr. Tuffy strips cause flats. Once they get old they get brittle, then they crack and end up cutting/pinching the tube.

freecycle 04-10-08 07:50 AM

ew dutty. this i was not aware of...

duct tape?! =P

somnambulant 04-10-08 07:53 AM

Conti Gatorskins or Specialized Armadillos. I'll post pictures of my last set of Armadillos tonight. That is all.

ps. Leah is on the cover of the NOW.. hehehe. It's the bike issue. http://www.nowtoronto.com/

Flimflam 04-10-08 09:07 AM

Thanks for the NOW link, I enjoyed reading the "Drivers are people, too" article - tempting to comment on a few things.

My buddy is needing a new bike soon, he's not a "bike" person by any means - but I'm getting really frustrated explaining to him that even something like this: http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/bik/637155340.html is likely better than sinking $150 into a Canadian Tire mountain bike... *sigh* He figures spending an extra $60 on a crap but new bike is better. This is coming from a guy who wants to ride to Niagara Falls with me one day... mmhmm :p This is what he linked me to

XBMC is kickass, loved it since I did that.

exhibitx 04-10-08 09:07 AM

they have tuffy tape (same thing as stop flats) at urbane and mec for cheaper (although i don't think they have the 700c orange)

i run it in all my tires now ... the area where i work has a scrap metal sorting building and other industrial ****tyness, i was getting 2 or 3 flats a week until i started using tuffy's, i think the only one i've had since was from a pothole downtown

that is my experience with it anyways
