What's the info for that one?
I know of one at 7:30 at Yonge/Queens Quay? That's the flyer I got handed - but it seems a little odd for a 'bye' ride, it's going out to the spit? Something tells me this is just some other random ride.

mike did you guys miss the rain on the way out? i was riding to the gate as the ferry was just pulling away from the dock and in the time i was waiting for the next one the skies just opened up and let fly the fury.

i've got some (blurry) pics as well; i'll upload the decent ones later...

It dumped on us just as the gates were coming down on the ferry. By the time we had run to the nearest overhang we were already drenched so we just rode home from there. It was actually fun once we came to terms with things. I remember turning from Spadina on King and having my whole foot plow through a puddle. High Park had currents. ;)

Today's the start of "Safe Cycling Week". aka. police blitz. Make sure to be aware of police 'traps' set up all over the city. I saw one at the T-intersection of College & Borden this morning -- I had just gone through on a yellow.. lucky! Make sure you use lights at night, mount a bell and watch out at stop signs and traffic lights.

I consider myself a pretty compliant cyclists. I don't go the wrong way on one way streets. I always slow down and look both ways at stop signs. Etc.
BUT I need to buy a bell today. I've been putting it off for too long! Any idea where I can grab a cheap "flick" bell, like the Incred-I-Bell?

jet sanchEz 06-16-08 10:23 AM

Yeah, I better get a bell too. Thanks for the heads up, I heard about this last week but forgot about it until now.

And Flimflam, yeah, the ride I mentioned is the same one you got a flyer from. I spoke to a few out-of-towners and they were all going to check it out but I don't know if it is the "official" ride, it was the guy from the Bicycle Film Fest that was organizing it.

What an awesome weekend that was! I got some great pics and the rain was pretty insane.

Morgan and I doing a beer run, right after I shot this I had to run over to save the beer.

Sweet Jet, yeah I thought I recognised the guy. Nice pics there guys - some great action shots you have there Mike from the start, and a beautiful 'moody' picture of the skyline too.

Bells for cheap can be had at MEC (King/Peter) or Canadian Tire for a classic ring-ring silver bell. I've only ever got the cheap ones.

I saw a motorbike and another officer had pulled one guy over near Augusta this morning on College. The lady cop eyed me/my bike pretty hard but didn't say anything - I've no bell on my bike, but I have one strapped to the strap on my bag, perhaps she saw that or didn't notice. I generally adhere well enough to avoid problems - we'll see though ;) Thanks for the heads up.

Edit: AIEEEEEEE seeing Tofu again in that state... :twitchy: :p Nice pics Wil :)

Thanks. I'll check out MEC tonight if it's not raining.

sammie. 06-16-08 12:09 PM

Yeah MEC definitely has the incred-i-bell- I picked one up last week for like six dollars. :)

canice 06-16-08 12:09 PM

that last shot of the skyline is beautiful.

i drove up to richmond hill last night for father's day dinner, and was on the dvp during the crazy lightning storm -- was just getting off the highway at buttonville airport when i saw a bolt touch down maybe 1/4 mile away.

Thanks, that photo was taken just a couple (literally) minutes before it opened up. The view from the back of the ferry was pretty intense (lightning arcing across half your field of vision, etc.).

MattRennick 06-16-08 01:12 PM

Great pics dudes!

I haven't had time to really sort / organize or post them yet but here are some of my shots from the weekend.

*Edit: I just realized that I didn't download about 200 photos and some of my favorites are in that bunch! I'll have to compress and upload them later. I'm a doofus.

The thieves have a new target, there's another CL posting about a Brooks saddle being swiped.

Great photos guys!

Have results been posted anywhere yet? Just got back from the 10 hour drive and my brain and body are toasted; great weekend everyone!

Great pics guys! That was probably the best weekend ever. I had a blast. Racing was awesome, even though I didn't qualify for the final. I'm pretty bummed that it is over. I miss being a messenger big time.
