I thought the top 4 from Global Gutz were going, is that incorrect?

Anyone (who is a messenger) who cares to register can go. I've been planning on going since talking to the organizers in March. Tofu is also going, although he registered as being from London (he worked there and feels more of an affinity for the place. Fair enough. He is coming from Toronto though). As for the top four messengers from Global Gutz being sent to Dublin I have heard that as well, but I think that depends on whether or not they make enough money from the race/raffle to actually pay for said 4 messengers to go. As of now I am the only one representing Toronto. Everyone else who said they were going has either backed out or registered with another city. If I have to the do the job alone I'm up to the task. I can't wait! :D

Plans of discontinued service also include a fare hike....i know this doesnt effect many people on here, as well as myself, but this city seems to be going right in the ****ter these days. Just venting.

Promises, schpromises. Look at the disaster that is called the Viva "rapid" transit system. Supposed to be launched from Phase 1 to 3. Phase 2 was supposed to completed this year with the introduction of dedicated bus lanes on Yonge st. going up from Finch to Highway 7. This is probably never going to happen now due to opposition from businesses along Yonge and the fact that they are "talking about" extending the subway line from Finch up to Highway 7.

Well whoop-dee-doo. Does anyone want to speculate how long building a subway line is going to take? Especially given that this hasn't even reached the planning stages yet. That and the TTC is also supposed to do the Scarboro extension and York U at the same time?

Also not suprisingly is that new buses that came with Phase 1 of viva have zero support for bikes. Even the old TTC buses have bike racks - nobody bothered to think that bike racks with a new system would be cool? Maybe i'm just biased.

$2.75 to go on uncomfortable, loud and slow buses? No thanks. Not while I can still bike and still beat the bus all the way to the subway. I feel genuine sorrow for the people that are forced to take public transit and have no other choice. And you wonder why this city and it's suburbs are still so car-centric.

now if mothballed....is that 6.5 kms of underground track ? ... Homeless shelters, expansion for the Mole ppl of nyc? Millar is just bent that he got rejected in council.

Awesome, dude. That's going to be amazing.

food for thought: one of the reasons for the massive budget restrictions is the fact that the car registration tax has been deferred. Oh the ironing.

Maybe you guys should just wrestle to see who "wins".

Turd Ferguson: Did you just compare property damage to ****? Wow.

Aside from that, how do I get sealed bearings out of a hub?

Coolio, post 28082, or 28082 backwards.

You need a cartridge bearing removal tool...If you bring the wheel down I will pop em out for you. Installing em can be done without the proper installation tool but it can be tricky. Use the axle and locknuts with some big washers as a press. Place the old bearings against the new ones to prevent damage to the new ones. You cant press em in using just the locknuts as any excess pressure on the inner race of the bearing will damage it.

I am not sure if what I will do could be considered "racing" but I am gonna ride it for fun.

TRaffic Jammer 07-20-07 07:27 AM

Not only do we sit back and get poisoned...through Gov't initiatives we actually PAY tax payers money to create/upgrade factories and more cars built here by offering up incentive the the manus to come here and build them. All this while a completely Canadian electric car company is not allowed to sell it's product in this country.

shapelike 07-20-07 07:28 AM

Race, whah?

The Tosca may be back on the road tonight, in which case I'm up for booting around and causing "a ruckus." Wes, I'll contact my people and have them send a car over for you later on. Wear something pretty.

TJ, You need to get in touch w/ someone who deals with Merry Sales (in California, I believe). They sell single Sugino 75 arms (drive-side and non-drive) in different lengths. I almost picked up one for myself last year but the payment options didn't jive ... (I think they didn't allow credit card payments for those items at the time). Aaanyway, if you make progress please get in touch as I'd like a 165mm left crank.

Edit: oh, tomorrow night ... riiight.

Glad I'm not the only one that thought that was crazy! :)

I'm always down for a good wrestle... and if I'm not available I can send in my cousin Pierre Bonheur (pictured below) in for the kill.

Re: Racing tomorrow night - I almost wish I was but I'm manning one of the checkpoints. Next time around, for sure!

PS/OT: Wes, yep, got all the Ragan 7"s & the CD discography now... Kind of a bummer, on the CD version of "The Boat" he removed the slide guitar! What the ****!?!?!

SamHouston 07-20-07 08:43 AM

If anyone wants to hang out with a bunch of people, drink beer and generally have a good time while maybe winning stuff, on a peaceful Sunday evening, early even, then come to the drawing at The Press Room, on Dundas..go go google power..850 Dundas West from 6pm to when you feel like leaving.

And if you hadn't seen the GG videoz,
Part1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=os6cXdSmp_I

Part 2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VxO4R5FivQ

They're pretty good! It kinda makes you crane your head back, the cameraman said he'll likely try a slightly more forward position for the helmet cam next time, but the action on Bloor is great! I was going the other way intending to go to the party when they passed me, did a ueuye and stayed with them for awhile, then peeled off with another fellow not racing and went to the Finish via a slow moving safety meeting, Fast, fast race, Tofu finishing first at 30:34 dam good for 21k of city, he finished third overall of the 15 cities this year.

Men:
1. Jens Reinert, Hamburg - 30:04
2. Alex Heimkind, Hamburg - 30:24
3. Tofu, Toronto - 30:34

Women:
1. Anette, Zurich - 36:31
2. Astrid, Zurich - 37:09
3. Sunny D, Toronto - 38:03

Tofu & Sunny D are going to Dublin for certains, the fundraiser isn't going as well as we'd like but their presence in Dublin is assured. There are a half dozen or so from TO going, just not registered...slackers.
I was supposed to go but alas it cannot be. At least 2 TO CMWC organizers are going, and some of our volunteers too.

Buy more tickets! the odds now are far too good for the people that already bought some! You need to stop them from getting all the loot we collected from our sweet loving sponsors! Get em from Keith, or Leah or at the party or from the intertubes. We really want to send 2 more people, and only you can prevent forest fires.

Now all I need to do is find a pic of some sinister dude putting wine grapes into crates for illegal export for you.

Ronin, I still chuckle over that smackdown gif.

You wouldn't happen to have sealed bearings for a surly hub would you?

Unsure if I have the ones you need. I think Surly use a 6901 which I have but to be sure check the code on the bearing itself.

canice 07-20-07 09:33 AM

someone stole my raceblade fender off my locked bike yesterday while it was raining. for the third time. i hate people.

also, they closed off bloor between castle frank stn and sherbourne because some guy on a motorcycle got creamed - they redirected cars, but all the cyclists got to go right through. am i sick for secretly enjoying the open road?

Ha ha! It all will be mine! I just bought twenty more tickets online.

Sam, how does that work exactly, when I win everything? Do you guys just email me via my paypal email? My phone # isn't included in the paypal address. I'll need to rent a bike trailer to take home all my loot.
